Democrats would not DARE to vote for Alito |
|
would they?
If they do they should be flung out of the party.

6. I'll be shocked if zero Democrats vote for him. |
|
That's what should happen of course but I don't see it. Perhaps I'll be surprised.

|
Of course, who knows - I like Reid but he needs to be more of a ballbuster. You did NOT go against the party in Lyndon Johnson's Democratic caucus, that was for fucking sure.

10. LBJ also had the power of a cohesive majority in the Senate |
|
The closest thing we have to that today is the iron fist with which Republicans rule the House.
And I would still argue LBJ was more powerful.
Today Democrats are the minority in the Senate, and Reid doesn't have a lot of leverage. The situation is not comparable.

I don't think Reid is doing a bad job with the hand he's been dealt. Basically, we have a shit hand, and all we can do is play it the best we can.

12. As I recall, a number of those DEMs voting yes come from |
|
RED states like Nebraska and Louisiana and so on. I guess they are more concerned about the local voters than the leadership.

15. It doesn't matter WHAT they vote - FILIBUSTER only power they have |
|
Voting no means NOTHING. The cons have the majority. The only way to TRULY vote no is to filibuster.
