Journalists Killed By U.S. Fire
Baghdad's Palestine Hotel Struck By U.S. Forces

April 8, 2003

The U.S. military said "that they were under fire from the building. But I know, because I was in the building ... that no one was firing from this building."

Lara Logan,
CBS News Correspondent

(CBS) Two journalists were killed and at least three were injured Tuesday when U.S. forces fired on their hotel in central Baghdad. The Americans said they were responding to fire in the area of the hotel.

A correspondent for the Al-Jazeera television network died in a separate attack.

The United States agreed later not to fire on the 18-story Palestine Hotel, where many members of the international media are staying to cover the war.

"We don't target journalists. But we will continue to target Iraqi military forces," said Capt. Frank Thorp, a Central Command spokesman in Qatar.

CBS News Correspondent Lara Logan was inside the hotel when it was fired on.

The media KNEW that those reporters were specifically targeted because they were not embedded propaganda whores.

Eason Jordan knew it, said it, then backtracked and resigned from CNN.

But there was no outrage, in fact the US media continued to fellate Bush and continue to do so even now. And now they feign outrage because some reporter with a big network was eavesdropped upon? Come on. It's not like any reporter from any major network or newspaper is ever going to do a truly hard-hitting piece on Bushco without express permission from the power elite that own those media outlets.

The corporate whore media have made their own beds and now they get to lie in them.

2. I remember.
I also remember watching TV and the different coverages at odd hours (but never on Fox) and I remember soldiers from gun turrents on tanks shooting at Al Arabiya's cameras mounted on tripods on buildings and seeing reporters on occasion scurrying away. And of course, I watched the journalist hotel attacks afterward and remember thinking to myself their policy must be to shoot at people or camera crews covering the events. It seemed the only explanation.

5. I remember the sense of helplessness I had as I watched this
story fall off the media radar.. It was evidence of how thoroughly compromised the media had become. I saw that they wouldn't report the truth to save their own lives and realized they wouldn't tell the truth to save mine either..
