Taliban's new commander ready for a fight, it ain't over till it's over...
'KARACHI - The Taliban's military offensive has begun in earnest in southern Afghanistan, with many key districts already captured by the militia that retreated from power in 2001 after the US-led invasion.

The scale and frequency of the Taliban's revitalized insurgency can be attributed directly to the recent appointment by Taliban leader Mullah Omar of legendary mujahideen leader Jalaluddin Haqqani as overall military field commander.'

3. Would the Taliban have been attacked if
they had made the deal with the Bush Junta regarding gas pipelines across their country?

Was it necessary to attack the Taliban to pursue al Q ?

Note: I am not a Taliban fan but my questions are relevant to me.

6. Just opinion of cours, but I think
it was necessary to depose the Taliban government to close the training camps there. We couldn't have new classes of terrorists openly training there and then shipping out all over the world every six months. That had to be stopped.

5. I don't think more American troops
will make things better in Afghanistan. They have a pretty long history of fighting foreigners there. I think if we tried to take the country at first with a massive US invasion, even our supposed allies would have turned on us and we would have been in the same shape as the Soviets back in 2002.

As long as the Pakistan border is uncontrolled, and the Pakistani government doesn't controll the huge tribal regions, this war will go on and that will probably be for decades.

7. There was a story today about 80 Taliban being killed.
Han't the Republican talking point on terror been that they defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan years ago?

8. Deposed them, yes
but defeated them, I think you'd have to be pretty stupid to say you defeated a fundamentalist religious movement in a few years.

Though if you'd have to be stupid to say it, no doubt Bush has said it, probably five different ways.
