US crisis over warplane project: report
(AFP)

22 May 2006

JERUSALEM - Israel and the United States are locked in disagreement over the warplane of the future after Washington refused to let Israel upgrade the aircraft with its own technology, a report said on Monday.

The United States is refusing to allow Israel to install any more advanced systems in their batch of the F-35 planes -- no navigation, sighting or fire control systems, or Israeli-developed missiles, the Maariv newspaper reported. snip

Last year, the Pentagon announced it was denying Israel access to some technology and information about the development of the Joint Strike Fighter because of concerns that the intelligence could be leaked to third countries.

The United States also initially froze Israeli participation in work to develop the F-35, furious over an Israeli sale of sensitive military technology and equipment to China.

4. "Israel, which receives 2.2 billion dollars..."
"...in US military aid to buy US defence equipment..."

Lookit that. Is that a sweetheart deal or what? We give our tax money to Israel, who gives it to US arms manufacturers.

Corporate welfare? No, no, no, it's foreign aid :eyes:

5. Probe: Israeli firm tried to smuggle drones to China
<snip>

"The police and the Defense Ministry are conducting an investigation into suspicions that an Israeli company sought to smuggle defense-related reconnaissance drones to China.

The company under investigation, Amit, manufactures Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RPVs) for reconnaissance purposes.

At present, police detectives are searching the company's factory, accompanied by the firm's owner and his attorney.

Police intend to detain the owner as well as employees of the plant, based in Kadima in the Sharon district of central Israel.

The company and its owner are suspected of having transferred an RPV to a foreign nation, ostensibly for the purpose of displaying it at a weapons show. The transfer was allegedly carried out without a permit from the Defense Ministry."

7. The article is new, but the forum subject line is old, old stuff
The US has been upset at Israel for that for quite some time now. However, the F-35 spin is quite new.

Israel has made a point of chewing out the Chinese ambassador to Israel for getting too cozy with Hamas or something like that, I think. If they think that's going to convince the Americans, heh... that's not going to be enough. Israel has a proven track record of selling technology to China, be it Israeli or American, and doing everything it can to cut corners where US directives not to sell to China are involved. That part's old news.

Anyway, just wanted to explain for the people who may not have known that.
