John Edwards Slams Bush & Cheney

John Edwards Slams Bush & Cheney

John Edwards was on "THIS WEEK," and had very harsh words for Bush and Cheney. He explained in depth why he feels this way. He wouldn't confirm Hayden for the CIA either. Responding to Mary Cheney's criticisms of him, he went after Dick Cheney and called Bush the worst President of our lifetime.

Video-WMP Video-QT
Stephanopoulos: You've also said that his boss, the President, is "the worst president of our lifetime".

Edwards: Yes.

Stephanopoulos: Worse that Richard Nixon?

Edwards: Absolutely. Absolutely.

Stephanopoulos: What has President Bush done that is worse than the crimes and the cover-ups of Watergate.

Edwards: Well he's done a variety of things. Things that are going to take us forever to recover from. I think we can recover from them but the damage done to the way America is viewed in the World. The lack of respect for American in the World. What the ongoing conflict in Iraq is doing to America's image. His response to this hurricane on the Gulf Coast which I think is part of a pattern of incompetence.

Stephanopoulos: But if he's worse than Richard Nixon, should President Bush be impeached?

Edwards: I think that the way to deal with this is we need a Democratic President in the next election. I think the damage this President has done -- and I didn't get through the whole list. For example, leading an effort -- an illegal effort, I think it's absolutely clear that it's illegal -- effort to spy on Americans, completely ignoring the law and the Constitution. The President knew and his advisor knew...

Stephanopoulos: He says that he has the authority under the Constitution. Article Two of the Constitution.

Edwards: He is wrong. He is wrong. It is the reason we have a separation of powers in this country. Congress had in acted a law that told the President exactly what he was supposed to do and he just ignored it. He intentionally ignored it. If there was any question about this, the least they should have done is to go to Congress and try to get the law changed. Should we be monitoring al-Qaeda? Absolutely. It is necessary to keep this country safe but we can do it under the law and the President is not above the law...
<..>
Stephanopoulos: So, you're for censure, not impeachment?

Edwards: If I were in the Senate, I would vote for censure.

2. Johnny-the-enabler is now John-the-tough-guy. Baloney.
The Democratic party needs to rid itself of which-way-is-the-wind-blowing types.

While in the Senate John Edwards couldn't help but abide by the polls and support the IWR, even though millions of Democrats took to the streets to protest against the oncoming invasion. Oh, that's right, John Edwards, the guy who went to law school and became one of the country's most successful attorneys, was dumber than you and me and was fooled by that crafty Republican spin machine.

And now that he's out of the Senate and the polls have changed, Edwards-the-poser pretends to talk tough. Hey, smart guy, censure means NOTHING.

3. Yeah and if I were President ....
BUT I'M NOT.

So it's easy to toss out all sorts of 'woulda shoulda coulda' crap when there are no implications.
Sorry, John. I'm not buying.

4. Good to see him going after Bush and Cheney
At least now he is telling it like it is. If you check the ABC site he had some harsh words for both Bush and Cheney. That's what I like to see. I don't ask myself "why is he saying these things now?". Maybe he is getting ready for 2008? That is implied in what it says in the article on the ABC website.

Of course, Edwards is not saying anything that Al Gore hasn't already said.

That's why I like John Edwards. He reminds me of Al Gore. Maybe it's just the southern accent?
