1. Before I belive him I want his service verified...
if not his story verified.

If he really was in the 3rd Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment then it shouldn't be to hard to prove. It also shouldn't be to hard to cooberate his service dates with deployment of his unit to Iraq.

Anybody can claim to be an 'Army Ranger' but not that many people actually are. If he went through RIP, and went to the Battalion, and earned his tab and can prove it (which just requires some decent journalism background checking) then I'll be more inclined to believe him.

2. Who knows how to verify this info?
After the Truthout/Jason Leopold debacle I'm a little more cautious. :)

3. good to be cautious
The right wing blogs are tearing apart his credibility even as we type. Let's not jump on this ship; there seem to be too many goofs.

4. 1st thing I'd ask him for would be:
Edited on Mon May-22-06 12:18 PM by davepc
His unit, down to the company. Dates of service, and Ranger class dates. A copy of his discharge papers would help.

Unfortunately there are many people who for various reasons claim to be a Navy SEAL or Army Ranger without having the ability to back up their claims.

Having your Ranger tab dosent make one a Ranger. Being a cook attached to a Ranger unit dosent make one a Ranger. Once somebody has gone through the Ranger Indoctrination Program and/or Ranger Orientation Program and serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment, then they can lay claim to that title (tabbed or not).

7. You mean I went through Ranger School just for fun?
I went through Ranger School in winter 86 and spent ten years in light infantry, including Airborne LRSD.

You're telling me an untabbed troop in a Ranger BN is a Ranger but I'm not?

Shit!

Wow, you must be really high speed.

8. Thats how it was explained to me
Before my friend got sent to Iraq he bought an extra set of ACU's and was sewing the patches on his uniform. One of them was a Ranger tab. I wasn't too familiar with his service (he's in the Army Reserve). I asked him if he was a Ranger. He said "No, I'm Ranger qualified.". I asked what the difference was. He said Rangers serve in the Regiment, which he had not, and earn the title "Ranger" in the Regiment. He said that the Rangers in the Regiment regard the school as the Army's toughest leadership course, but getting a patch for your arm dosent a Ranger make, only time spent in one of the Battalions and RIP.

I guess he was full of shit.

I apologize if I offended.

6. After two tours in a Ranger BN,
it would be unusual to still be an E-4.

With the time in service with Ranger School, etc., he should be an E-5 after two tours.
