4. They discovered that people will believe what other people tell them,
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 10:54 PM by ocelot
even when what they actually see is different, and that they (we) are quite literally afraid of having a different opinion than the group.

So it's really true that a lie will be believed, even if the truth is right in front of us, if the lie is repeated often enough by enough people.

Surprise, surprise...

5. But, more importantly, how is it that some of us are immune to this?
How do we find this answer? Why are some sold on the propaganda and others able to see through it immediately?

7. Some of us are smarter, more perceptive, more sensitive
to these things.

I believe that has to be it.

The typical freeper has a mindset that is different from the liberal.

Wasn't there some study of brain scans of liberals and conservatives and found a difference?

9. That's a damned good question
As an aside (maybe? maybe not?)

I tried hypnosis a few years back and wasn't too impressed because it did nothing.

11. How do you know you're immune?
Maybe you are just a victim of some other manipulation.

12. How many A students were in your class? B? C and D?
How many comprehended what they were learning and how many just remembered what they were told and how many didn't pay enough attention to do either?

8. But it is not true of everyone.
Some people actually trust their own judgement.

10. This explains a lot...
AKA: The Dubya Mentality.

"..."One is that they know what their eyes are telling them, and yet they choose to ignore it, and go along with the group to belong to the group," he said.

The second explanation is that hearing other opinions — even if they are wrong — can actually change what we see, distorting our own perceptions."

Here's what the report is about: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/Health/story?id=1495038

13. It's a worldview
I think Lakoff explains it very well. The Freeper-types need authority, and they would rather follow someone who offers them orders because they fear ambiguity. When they encounter it, their first impulse is to turn to someone who will offer them a seemingly unambiguous answer, like "they hate us for our freedom." End of story. Oh. Okay. Because they're special.

Because they are special, and because they are in danger they believe that there must be human sacrifices made in order to protect them from the evil ones. Daddy will perform the ritual sacrifices -- he has everything under control, and if we just shut up and do as Daddy says, we will be safe.

Oh, and by the way, Daddy's gonna need that lunch money back . . .
