Is anyone watching Chimpy's make pretend Q & A on CNN?...
...He's taking softball questions from the Restaurant Assn. in Chicago. Chimpy just told them "Most of the oil in our country is consumed by the use of automobiles." WOW!!! And I thought it was all the Vaseline people use for Hemorrhoids, shows how much I know. Thanks for the enlightenment, Mr. President.

He's pounding the addicted to oil drum... like he intends to do something about it.

Actually he is already doing something about it, he's invading the Middle East so we can continue feeding that addiction. He hasn't mentioned this yet though. I'm sure he will later.

Or the 1AD in Kuwait, about to deploy, AGAIN, to Iraq?

Dream on.

5. While the NRA has a broad membership profile ......
..... they mainly represent the interests of the big chain owners.

Think of them as the trade assocation to which McDonalds or Outback would belong.

as a general rule.

And, depending upon the type of cuisine, they're also healthier.

14. Portions are huge in the US
Although smaller portions in Europe, my friend and I can still get by sharing a main course w/an extra side salad thrown in.

A lot of Germans could benefit from the same. Obesity is becoming a problem here.

13. In what states?
Any on the east coast, west coast or breadbasket? I'm not referring to Cracker Barrel or Sizzler, mind you. :)

I think I could starve in America's breadbasket. What's with all the white glop on salads? Olive oil is a major antioxidant. It should be on every restaurant table.

15. Olive Oil on every table?
Partially hydrogenated oil and rendered animal fat are cheaper. The bottom line is more important than health and flavor.

16. Yeah, and corn syrup in everything.
But the bigger US cities have some real trend-setting restaurants whose menu takes 20 min. to read, as I recall--creative and appealing.

The most appreciated present I ever gave a friend was a very good bottle of balamic vinegar, from Modena...good even on strawberries! Good, aged, vinegar is difficult to find in the US.

19. It's the American way... Olive oil is like soccer here...

... it's considered European and not worth our time... I have a friend who eats all that crap, salad dressing and fatty appitizers and I noticed and pointed out to her the other day, each time she finishes eating, she'll grab her stomach and say "Uchh, I don't feel good"...

Hmmm, I wonder why...? She dismissed my "theory" as "ridiculous"...

Some people are just stubborn nuckleheads...

20. LOL!
Espresso caught on, didn't it? The US turned Europe's simple cup of coffee into a designer drug. It took me 30 min. to get a cup of coffee at Starbucks Mall of America last year, what w/all the twists of this and flavorings of that everybody was adding to their drink.

I have high hopes that the olive will likewise catch on in a big way.

And then balsamic, the real kind. :)

21. What, you don't call the stuff you buy at...

... the market, real "balsamic"? LOL, did you ever read the ingredients on that stuff? No wonder it tastes like crap... I buy the good kind at a specialty store and even that ain't so good, but closer... They don't want you to discover the real deal since salad dressing is a million dollar business...

24. I found out recently that I don't know vinegar!
Sounds like you don't either!

It has to be aged, for years. Modena, Italy makes the best. The aged balsamic is a thicker sweeter taste--cadillac of vinegars. Maybe Piggly Wiggly has it?

26. I get this stuff at an Italian specialty store here...
Edited on Mon May-22-06 04:59 PM by NJ_Lib
in NJ...They're an Italian family who run the store and they import almost everything they sell from Italy, and the rest of their stuff is home-cooked... I don't think it's Modena but it's definitely not the crap you buy at the Shoprite... I'll look at what they have on the shelf next time I go there... I try to stay out of that store since I can never leave without spending $100... :)

Edited to add: Wow, you were right... I don't know vinegar... $135 for a 3.4 ounce bottle...? Holy Canoli, that is a lot of money... Wish I could afford that, I would definitely be buying it... The stuff I get at the above store is usually $24 for same size... Man, I thought that was expensive, I didn't know shit...

Thanks for the lesson, my kind European friend...! :)

28. You and I are of the same economic class of vinegar
We're doing a lot better than white distilled, which I used to use on salad. Now I only use it to remove the kalk from my faucets and sinks.

One day I will get to know NY and find all those mom/pop stores, and go nuts! In Croatia there's a town billing itself as the smallest in the world--Hum. They have a simple but good restaurant, w/this view when eating outside:

http://www.photocroatia.com/GALLERY/photo.php?photo=1387&u=2284|24

They also have a shop selling wonderful olive oil, olives, and expensive jars of a kind of truffle, I think called "tufutti," which they use over spaghetti. Also, some nice dry white wine. I dropped a few dollars there. :)

29. Few things crack me up at 7am but thanks...

... for the laugh... That first line had me laughing out loud...

That view is unreal,so beautiful... Yeah, there places like this in the US, you know, mom and pop type of places that offer great food and beautiful views but bring your wallet with you because most of those places are very expensive... The "Chains" know this and since they buy in bulk nationally, they are able to stay below those places, price-wise... I think that's why chains are so popular here, crappy food at low prices is the American way...

Thanks for the vinegar education, I will never forget my DU friend in Germany, who enlightened me to the "the good stuff"... :) Have a great evening...! :)

11. Walter Reed could provide a "captive" audience
W/so many patients missing their legs, they won't be going anywhere.

On the other hand, the parents of a prosthesis specialist working at Walter Reed told me last year that when Rummy requested to speak to the amputees, none of them opted to attend.

...Don'tcha see? It's all been about pointing up the importance of learning from history. What better way to drive this point home than to literally bring about the horrific consequences of NOT learning our most important history lessons? Not only is he the Decider, he's the Educator, specializing in enlightenment through suffering. Hitler was quite the Educator, as you may recall.

...all you had to do was take a look at Texas, especially their education system, when the Chimp was governer err the Decider... Or maybe one of his failed "business ventures"... Or just look at Jenna and Barbara and compare them with Chelsea... Does this man do anything right...?
