26 million 'undocumented workers' now have verifiable SSNs

How conveeenient! Full name. Date of birth. Social security account number. The Social Security Administration's "burden" of matching the SSN to the correct DOB and full name has been alleviated. Employers no longer need to mess up their records with those nuisance letters from the SSA. They can even make sure they're not reporting income for people on disability.

Whew! Sure is nice to know that all those businesses won't have to incur the administrative expenses of cleaning up their records. That ought to take some of the pressure off the stock market!

Aren't those all "good things"?? We should all be relieved. Just another service to my country. :shrug:



Note: I called the VA to attempt to determine whether my name, service number, date of birth, and social security number were included in the data given to Coyotes'R'Us ... and they refused to answer the question and then hung up on me. (I was polite.) Clearly, they will NOT assist any veteran in determining whether his or her privacy was compromised - obviously precluding the formation of a class for a class action suit. Convenient, huh?

"Undocumented workers" are currently estimated to be responsible for about 1.5% of total wages reported to the SSA, higher than ever before.

As of October 2004, SSA’s Earnings Suspense File (ESF) — an accounting repository for unmatched wages, not taxes — contained approximately 246 million wage items totaling about $463 billion in wages related to Tax Years (TY) 1937 through 2002. At the absolute maximum, that represents less than $72 billion in payroll taxes (OASDI and HI), and likely to be far less. Compared to the trillions in payroll taxes over that same 65-year period, it's almost trivial. Only somewhat recently, in the last ten years or so, has it exploded.

$72 billion would be the MAXIMUM TOTAL contributions made by 'undocumented workers' OVER THE ENTIRE 65-year history of SS. Currently, it's about 1.5% of all wages/contributions. (I guess bolding it wasn't enough, huh?)

Again, despite the insane hype, their payroll taxes are very small in comparison to all the ("legal") payroll taxes.

Clue: That's in significant part due to the appallingly low wages they're paid ... and that's not counting those working "off the books" (e.g. day labor) for whom FICA taxes aren't paid.

Corporate America needs their workers to look legal, when the the Republican 'get tough' illegal worker laws are paraded in front of voters in time for the election, as Democrats are being rounded up by the FBI for being corrupt.

The government claims that the thief probably didn't know what they got their hands on, and probably wouldn't be able to crack the code to unlock all the data. Okay, now why in the Hell is the government making sure this is a red hot story, if those who stole it, don't know what they have?

Mental note for U.S. Government: Whoever stole it, now knows exactly what they have, and they thank you for making sure they know. You may want to look for a ring selling identities to illegal workers.

The 11 million number they always bandy about, is just an estimate based on those they could get to participate in the census from a few years back.
A more accurate number, from the welfare bureau, places the estimate at 24 million, nearly 8 million in Texas alone, and even those numbers are several years old.

It's just another weird coincidence that the numbers are so close to the WB estimates, Isn't it?
