Here's my response to American Legion call to jail war protestors.
You can call for my jailing for opposing this war all you want, but it will not stop me, and the majority of Americans who now oppose it. I always respected the American Legion, even while disagreeing, because I know full well the sacrifices you have made. So now you call for the jailing of dissenters, and you thus disgrace all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to uphold our Constitution and the "last best hope of mankind." Guess you will just have to come get me. Tell me, when the camps are opened to handle the millions of dissenters, will you organize the Legion members into camp guard units? Or will most of your members be looking out from inside the camps at you and the other guards?

Here is one take on this developing story:

3. Gee
The only thing that news piece makes me want to do is to protest just to piss those anti-Americans off. Who's with me?

4. I don't respect the American Legion
Although it's made-up of veterans, it's leadership was founded by the 'elites' to manipulate and use veterans to obtain political power for the 'elites' benefit, not for the veterans.

Think of it as the "3rd Way" using veterans, rather than the people's party, if you know what I mean.

5. The American Legion consists of slobbering drunks who
pretend like they matter. Why would I care what the town drunks say? My local Legion consists of about a dozen of the biggest drunks in my town. Swiftboat types .

18. I used to think it was just a local thing....
The three AL posts I've done business with are all as you said. Bunch of drunks. Right wing nutjob drunks at that. And I keep hearing about other posts that are the same way.

Seems to be an accurate broad brush you just used. :)

6. The American Legion was founded by traitors
They, along with the so-called 'Liberty League' were two of the main groups that approached Smedley Butler (on behalf of a group of industrialists) and asked him to depose FDR. At one point later, before Pearl Harbor, the head of the Legion proudly described the American Legion as 'America's Blackshirts', since both Mussolini and Hitler were still popular amongst the American right at the time (mid-30's).

So, to hell with them.

11. Your point is well taken.
I was too obsequieous, and in retrospect regret it. But, the central point remains true: These are the "warriors" who now turn on their own people, and I wanted to nail their insanity now, not their past. But you are correct, and I don't dispute your history.

8. If the American Legion told me protesters should be jailed...
I'd tell them that we have the right to free speech in this country, and if they don't like it they can get the hell out.

10. fuck those aholes in the American Legion....they're TRAITORS. seriesly
they were the ones who first contacted Smedley Butler in 1933, which put the wheels in motion of the aborted coup attempt; you know, the one that the vast majority of the American people have no idea ever happened.

Butler's own words about the American Legion:

Do you think it could be hard to buy the American Legion for un- American activities? You know, the average veteran thinks the Legion is a patriotic organization to perpetuate the memories of the last war, an organization to promote peace, to take care of the wounded and to keep green the graves of those who gave their lives.

But is the American Legion that? No sir, not while it is controlled by the bankers. For years the bankers, by buying big club houses for various posts, by financing its beginning, and otherwise, have tried to make a strikebreaking organization of the Legion. The groups--the so-called Royal Family of the Legion--which have picked its officers for years, aren't interested in patriotism, in peace, in wounded veterans, in those who gave their lives...No, they are interested only in using the veterans, through their officers.

hahaha....they were the sponsors of my first Little League Baseball team

12. What a sicko!
"...endanger their lives by encouraging terrorists to continue their cowardly attacks against freedom loving peoples."

When has Cindy Sheehan, or any other person protesting this ugly, grotesque war that has killed and maimed so many ENCOURAGED TERRORISTS??? This asshole is completely delusional. Why is it that the hatemongering asshats like this guy think THEY have the right to say whatever they want, but any of us who disagree or stand against something don't?

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

Digusting, just disgusting!

I don't remember them setting parameters about the liberty they fought for at the time?

"For God and country" has been the creed of The American Legion since its inception by GI's in 1919 after World War I. It is our creed today. It will be tomorrow.

That creed, our American values, our religious history and heritage, the Boy Scouts and the public display of seemingly all other symbols of our American religious history and heritage, including at the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial, are under attack by the ACLU, and aligned special interests.

The American Legion is committed to fighting these fanatical attacks. I commend you all for your efforts to save the Los Angeles County Seal from revision -- from “secular cleansing” -- by the ACLU.

17. Developing story?
Your link was from last year and I was under the impression the Brownshirt Goosestepper Cadmus took a lot of heat for his words. Is the American Legion stiring things up again?
