Take It From Me: Al Gore
I just received my newest issue of Men's Health in the mail, and look at this little gem that I found inside... :)

Take It From Me: Al Gore

Al Gore isn't dwelling on the pass{sic} -- he's moved on

Don't talk to Al Gore about disappointment. It's not that he wishes people would shut up already about the 2000 election: He understands that 50 million Americans shared his disappointment, and he's happy to let them vent. But he doesn't want to dwell on history. He's looking decades ahead, when seawater may be lapping against Manhattan skyscrapers unless, he says, something is done to stop global warming. So he's been on the road, with a slide show, a documentary, and now a book -- An Inconvenient Truth. Alarmist grandstanding? An addiction to the spotlight? A step toward another run? Gore says no. He knows that's what some people think. But more important, he says, he knows what he believes.

On Dog-Pound Wisdom
When I was in my 20s, my wife and I got a little puppy at the pound. We asked a dog trainer to give us some pointers. She said, "Okay, step one: What is this puppy going to do?" I said, "What do you mean? He's going to be a puppy!" She said, "No, no, no: Is he going to get the news-paper? Be a watchdog? Herd sheep?" And she said something very simple, but to me it came off as profound: "A puppy has to have a purpose." A lot of men out there don't feel like they have a purpose.

1. LOL - I like the last one: "Gore's Guidelines"
"Gore's Guidelines

1. When a direction feels right, go that way to find out why. Fulfillment usually follows.

2. Solve one problem. You may find you're inspired to solve more.

3. There are a lot of us on the planet, and we do a lot of damage. We can also fix a lot of things, if we choose.

4. Everyone needs a purpose in life. Even puppies. "

6. That was my favorite part too.
All of those points are so simple and yet so profound. Simply amazing. I had the biggest smile on my face reading this article today, I just had to share it here. I'm glad you (and the other posters in this thread) enjoyed it as much as I did. :)

I know he said he won't run again, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case. I would pound some serious pavement to get that man in the White House where he rightfully belongs...and should have been for the last 5.5 years.

7. I like this part too.
"On Maintaining Humor In The Face Of Failure

Humor is a healing balm and one of the highest expressions of the human spirit. I was at a gathering where the speaker was saying, "There are probably people here who have not been able to achieve a goal that they've set for themselves, and maybe they blame a boss or a spouse. How many blame a boss? How many blame a spouse? Anything else?" There's this long pause, and I say, "The Supreme Court!" It slightly derailed the discussion. There've been times when I did take myself deadly seriously. But those times are long past.

On Michael Crichton, Friend And Global-Warming Debunker

The first thing to remember about Michael is that he's a science-fiction writer. And the second thing is, he's often been attracted to contrarian plotlines. Such as the female boss who's the epitome of sexual harassment in America, instead of the more common situation. I wouldn't be surprised if he came out with a book in which the bad guys are the ones who think the earth is round and orbits the sun. He got Bush's ear because Bush wanted that message in his ear."

5. "Take it from me" ? That's exactly what the Supreme Court did.
They took the presidency from him and took his presidency from us. Theft of the millenium.

8. He'll run.
And he'll win.

(This is my mantra. I've said it on the phone, in person, and on DU for several days now. Feel a draft?)

9. I hope you're right. I really, really hope you're right.
Not a day goes by anymore that I don't think what a better country this would be, what a better country this could be, if Gore had been rightfully allowed to ascend to the Presidency. IMHO, the Dem nomination is his for the taking in 2008, if he wants it, and I sure hope he decides that he does.

11.  Every time Bush, Cheney or Rummy say something I think, if only.
:hi: I hope he runs,we need him. Here is another video from SNL last Saturday. http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/21.html#a8367 Every time Bush, Cheney or Rummy say something that has ultimately turned out wrong, someone, animal or thing spits water or soup on them. Karl Rove scurries into the frame each time and makes them do another take. All the audio is of course the real thing. Another excellent job by Robert Smigel and Matt O'Brien.:kick:

It's a line from "The Jerk" starring Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters (rrwawrrrr)

15. We need that puppy back in the White House.
I totally respect what Al Gore is doing now.. trying to save us from ourselves. I would love it if his path to purpose helped him realize that being in the White House IS a big step in reversing the damage of the past 6 years... I love that he realizes that many of us cannot get over it.. it stares us in the face every day. What if a path felt right to 50 million people? Would that be a path Al Gore should take and see why it feels so right to US? I still contend that Al Gore is the greatest American story waiting to be written...
