11. Not surprised
I've been listening to the lying news whores talk about how they were forced into oblivion for speaking out in 2003 (guess they missed the way their album sales SHOT UP after it) and are trying to make a COMEBACK.

Cripes, what a load of horse shit. The scripts could only have been authored by somebody within the White HOuse, maybe Hughes.

Country is my least favorite genre, but I do have their first album. I may consider this one. They are great.

13. I just heard CNN's report about how they 'abandoned' country.
If their audience didn't appreciate them, it's apparent others, like us, will! I hate old-timey country, but I do like the Chicks and have a few CDs. This one is on my list!

22. Soon it will be those country stations abandoning them...
and others like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Dollie Parton, etc. that are now starting to do Bush protest songs, along with their listeners. Those stations might regret their "stance" soon that will start costing them listeners...

33. You hate "old-timey country"? What do you have against Charlie Poole...
& the North Carolina Ramblers? Or the famous Beatnik-Old-Timey band, The Holy Modal Rounders?

Yeah, I know you probably consider the Oak Ridge Boys to be "old-timey." Not knowing that Old Timey is a genre--roughly described as pre-Bluegrass Blues-influenced Southern String Band Music. Both of which genres I like. Along with Honky Tonk, Western Swing & the Bakersfield Sound. Even the much-maligned Countrypolitan movement produced the wonderful Miss Patsy Cline. I've even got a soft spot for Country Rock, the Cosmic Cowboys & the "revolutionary" alt.country.

I LOVE Country music--but dislike most stuff now heard on the radio. And I'll buy the Dixie Chicks' new one--even though it ISN'T all that Country. ('cuz Country is not the only kind of music I like...)

Edited on Mon May-22-06 07:22 PM by NJ_Lib

... Such a sad and beautiful song...

Edited to add lyrics

DIXIE CHICKS LYRICS

"Travelin' Soldier"

Two days past eighteen
He was waiting for the bus in his army green
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gives him a smile
And he said would you mind sittin' down for a while
And talking to me,
I'm feeling a little low
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go

So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you

Chorus: I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home

So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart
It might be love and all of the things he was so scared of
He said when it's getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sittin' down at the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for awhile

One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the Anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead
Crying all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read and nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair

And by the way: would you recommend I get Living With War? I'm seriously thinking about it.

18. The Chicks are no musical lightweights either... Read up...

... on their history sometime, how they got started. They all (the two are sisters) come from respectable musical families and the sisters' musician father had worked with Natalie and brought her home to meet his girls to see if they would hit it off and play together. With a little convincing on both sides, that's exactly what happened and as they say, the rest is history... Like country music or not, these girls are real musicians...

I just looked and they are going to be at Joe Louis Arena here in Detroit. I am definitely going. I saw them a few years ago and they were awesome in concert. I refuse to let those rednecks drive down their numbers. We should do everything we can to support them!

Ends up we didn't do any better than if we waited til Sat @ 10am, when they went on "public" sale. I'm not saying all the programs are this bad but my experience with it sucked...

43. After listening to it, here's my opinion
The album is a great piece of work.

It's simple, emotional and completely heartfelt. Most of the songs are about their home life and their kids, but there's a lot of material everyone can relate to.

Home is still their best work, but the new album is their second best work.

Anyone who boycotts them are missing out on a kick-ass album.

I can't want for them to hit Fresno in September. I won't have to worry about redneck country fans to ruin it for me.
