Mary Kay Letourneau and the Bush* administration |
|
I had no idea about all this stuff: Mary Kay's father was John G. Schmitz, a U.S. Congressman from Orange County, California and a professor at Santa Ana College. He was generally considered one of the more conservative members of the House, and ran for the Presidency in 1972 on the ultra-conservative American Independent Party ticket. Her mother Mary was a homemaker and anti-feminist activist. Mary Kay is one of seven children born to John and Mary, and has two half-siblings that were the result of a longtime affair between her father and his mistress. One of her brothers served as White House counsel in the George H. W. Bush administration. Another, Joseph E. Schmitz, was appointed Inspector General of the Department of Defense by George W. Bush. Mary Kay Schmitz married Steve Letourneau on June 30, 1984. The couple had two daughters and two sons together.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Kay_Letourneau

3. I wouldn't call LeTourneau a "perverted child molestor" |
|
in the sense that Albert Fish was a perverted child molestor. If I remember correctly she was banging one of her students? And they hooked up after jail? Hmmmm child molestation indeed.

6. She exploited an underage child |
|
If it were a man that did the same thing--they'd want his penis mounted on a wall somewhere. With that being said--she was tried and convicted. She served her sentence. During that time, the minor child became an adult and petitioned the court to be allowed to resume a relationship with her. The court agreed, as they should have.

Vili (the student) was a child when Mary Kay started in with him, and that is wrong, wrong, wrong. I used to get so angry at some of the people around here who would romanticize it because they "loved" each other. It was rape and molestation, plan and simple, same as it would be if it were a male teacher with an under aged female student.
Vili IS an adult now, Mary Kay DID serve her sentence, and they are married. Doesn't excuse what she did when Vili is was still underage, but it's irrelevant now that he is no longer a child and Mary Kay paid for what she did.

5. You are talking about Susan Smith |
|
His name was Beverly Russell and he slept with her up to the time she drowned her kids. He had ties to Pat Robertson and was a state GOP leader in SC.

...Newt(er) Gingrich, then head of the Republican Party, blamed the whole thing on the breakdown of morals and family caused by liberalism. :puke:

9. Schmitz was a real piece of work... |
|
As I recall it, he was an outspoken Roman Catholic despite his long-time affair with his mistress. (Curiously, no one ever thought to deny him Communion, the way various conservative Bishops are doing with Roman Catholic politicians that won't vote to ban abortion.) He once was quoted as saying that Catholicism was best because only in a Catholic civilization could you come to any town and be assured of being able to find a good meal, good wine, good lodging, and a good whore. (As Dave Barry might have said, I'm not making that up.)
