Sad but true, Bush has probably got a drawer full of pardons.

7. No link, just morbid speculation.
I think we are wasting too much time and beating ourselves into a frenzy awaiting news on Rove's possible indictment for crimes. They'll probably all skate, just look at history for the last 30 years, damn few ever pay for their crimes.

17. A month or two
before you joined DU, I posted a psychological profile of Mr. Rove on one of the infamous "Plame Threads." I noted on it that Mr. Rove had been identified as the "weak link" of the top dogs in the administration. Every good investigator looks at the group he/she is after, and identifies who the weak link is.

Things are good right now .... at least for our side.

it be in your journal from that far back? And thank you for your reasoned optimism. I really enjoy reading how you have logically taken this ride with those of us who are not so logical!

any of those old rantings. A few DUers have saved the old "Plame Threads," and I will ask a couple if they could locate that one in particular. I'd like to read it again, myself.

3. It's a race between impeachment and indictment.
If Bush is removed promptly, the situation will be much better. I think his party will dump him by August. It's every white middle aged wealthy man for himself at this point.

4. Bush Cannot Pardon Himself
And I doubt that he could buy one from anyone who comes after him. And they are all eligible for war crimes prosecution, so there's always a higher international court to fall back on.

I'm not worried--they will get what's coming to them. All of them.

5. Well, doesn't that really depend on...

... what kind of trouble Rover is in...? If it's serious enough, I can't see Chimpy handing out a pardon right away. If he thought his pole numbers were low now, wait until he attempts this move... Who knows though, the Murkins may sleep through this one as well...

8. I've thought that from the very beginning, which is why...............
......I don't even bother tracking Rove's indictment or non-indictment status. The whole Bush family has had "loyalty" pounded into their heads by the old lady since they were tiny.

20. newbie, old-timer
it makes no difference. I think you are right. Even should Rove be indicted and punished, in a few years time he will be back on the news talk shows as a respected guest commentator. He might even get his own show.

18. Could He Be Indicted After November, 2006?
When (not IF) we win back the Senate and the House of Representatives this November, we can impeach the entire corrupt Bush Cabal Regime -- Bush, Cheney -- the whole STINKING lot of them!

That way, it would be impossible for Bush to issue any pardon of Rove!

Maybe that's what Fitz is doing -- holding off on an indictment until it becomes IMPOSSIBLE for Junior to pardon Rove.

21. HOPE for the BEST!
And the BEST would be for the ENTIRE corrupt, stinking, rotten, tyrannical Bush-Cheney-Rice-Rummyfeel-Roberts-Frist-Hastert Cabal Regime to fall -- and for all of them -- EVERY SINGLE ONE -- to be indicted and to be put in the dirtiest, rotten, prison there is!

25. I honestly feel that
I don't know. :dilemma:

I'm watching this whole thing as a test of the system. I am skeptical that we have the mechanisms or the political will to make the criminal abusers pay. The legal system is not something I trust for a minute. But I want to keep an open mind and give it a 50-50 chance. If Fitzgerald can't do it by this route, it will not be for his lack of trying.

If we DO find that the punishment (or lack thereof) does not fit the crimes, then it is up to us to change that condition. You cannot deal with this type of vicious political criminal without playing hardball. The laws must have teeth, the resistance to obstructive tactics must be strong, the punishments swift and serious. Just to let them sink or swim in the public arena as a punishment does not work anymore. There is no concern about that, no embarrassment, no remorse. Only inconvenience. The repercussions must be something that they find VERY unpleasant. Being treated like a common criminal is a good start--they find being equated with the common man (ie. "riff-raff") the most devastating blow to their ego imaginable.
