pretty similar.

4. Many of us care. It seems we can't stop it. Our so called
elected representatives don't care about what we want.

6. But WWIII has been "right around the corner" for 40 years or so. I know..
...that you might disagree with my perspective that we have lived under the threat of nuclear annihilation since the Cuban Missile Crisis (and even before). I understand that things look now like they're the worst they've ever been. But things have always been pretty close to the edge.

However, we haven't toppled over into the void yet. Consider why: People everywhere dread nuclear war more than anything else on earth. It means the end of all life on earth, or nearly so and that means nobody wins. I believe, though I have no evidence to prove it, that even a few terrorist organizations are in possession of nuclear weapons currently. Especially the rebels in Chechnya- especially them. And they haven't used them.

Why?

Because nuclear weapons are much more powerful when they are leveraged as opposed to actually being used. Those who have them, nomatter what the motivations, understand this, every one.

7. Mr.bush is out of touch with much of reality.
This is scary. And I for one am not sure his handlers can handle him or are that much better overall.

10. More out of touch than Reagan who proclaimed, jokingly, that...
..."Russia has been outlawed. We begin bombing in 5 minutes!"? Arguable. I certainly see your point. However, you just have to have faith in things continuing to work out. Is that naive? Maybe. What is the alternative- to believe that nuclear war is right around the corner- in the next few months, say? Ok, if a person genunely believes that they should do something about it. And doing something about it would mean getting the hell out of this country, ASAP. If you've no money, hitchhike to Mexico- something.

I guess I'm implying, if you (and I'm not speaking about you, specifically) believe that nuclear war is very near on the horizon, you should act on that belief immediately. I know if I genuinely believed that I would nolonger have time to post on a web forum- I'd be too busy trying to save my ass!

we have to deal with it.

We've had to deal with all the other shit for the last five years. Now we got that crazy MoFo in Iran with a personality all too similar to the Chimp. But as of yet, there's no indication Iran could start a WW even if it wanted to. Sure, they are important with regards to world energy markets but there is little indication they have nukes already.

Now, what is very possible, is a regional conflict with Iran and Israel...possibly involving the US at some point...most likely this would be caused if Israel decided to destroy any Iranian nuclear facilities. That would follow by an Iranian retaliation against Israeli cities...But I'm not sure how effective that would be.

12. I agree. Very likely there will be a pre-emptive nuclear strike on Iran
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 12:56 AM by Nothing Without Hope
within the next few months - many, many clear signs of that. It will be done without asking for permission from Congress. Not only do the Bushies and their Israeli hawk allies want "regime change" in Iran, but the Euro-based oil bourse is due to open in Iran in spring. Can't have that! But of course it's not about oil...:sarcasm:

Just a couple of days ago al-Hakim made a major policy statement on the Iraq constitution that may well ignite overt civil war - and the US media have virtually not covered it. Not on broadcast or cable TV news at all. It's the second story in the opening post of this thread:

thread title (1-12-06 GD): Murtha: "Situation in Iraq IS Civil War"- & al-Hakim showed this yesterday
