Gore on the 2000 Election - Was it Stolen?

The Comeback Kid
As Democrats worry about their 2008 chances, out of the wilderness comes a stranger to save them. Wait a minute. That’s no stranger. that’s . . . Al Gore!?!
By John Heilemann

...................

“In spite of that,” Gore goes on, “we won the popular vote and came within one Supreme Court justice’s vote of winning the election. So if that final decision had gone the other way, the question might well be, how did you guys pull it off?”

Does he, like many Democrats, think the election was stolen?

Gore pauses a long time and stares into the middle distance. “There may come a time when I speak on that,” Gore says, “but it’s not now; I need more time to frame it carefully if I do.” Gore sighs. “In our system, there’s no intermediate step between a definitive Supreme Court decision and violent revolution.”

Later, I put the question of Gore’s views on the matter to David Boies, his lawyer in the Florida-recount battle. “He thought the court’s ruling was wrong and obviously political,” Boies says. So he considers the election stolen? “I think he does—and he’s right.”

1. And I would agree with him!!
Its still unfathonable to me how the SCOTUS got away with making the decision .. and further that not actions were taken regarding it .. no clarifications or clear procedures established afterwards in the event that this happens again.

2. This man has more tactfulness and finesse
in his baby toe than * could ever have in his entire body.

I'm reminded of the big deal the media made about him sighing during those torturous debates back in '00.

We're all sighing now.

5. What court? The Supreme Court, which implemented the coup, has
(thanks to their decision) shifted further to the right.

6. Wow, thank you President Gore

I don't think I've seen a wiser statement made by a politician in my 37 years. I really want this man to run now.

16. Not for anything, folks, but...
If John Kerry made this kind of weak ass statement: "There may come a time when I speak on that,” Gore says, “but it’s not now; I need more time to frame it carefully if I do.” DU would be wiping the floor with his hair.

This is getting almost funny.

14. No - that honor goes to Clinton for closing the books on IranContra, BCCI
Iraqgate and other BushInc crimes against the Constitution, all of which led to the 2000 takeover by an even stronger team of heartless BFEE fascists.

9. A long but great read for anyone who want's the "inside scoop" on Gore.
Especially those of us who want him to be drafted to run in '08.

10. That is the correct answer....
For him and Kerry.

"There may come a time when I speak on that,” Gore says, “but it’s not now; I need more time to frame it carefully if I do.”

11. Al
Al's got my vote again in 2008. We need a wise, benevolent and caring stateman back in the White House.

And we also need a Zappa fan in the White House. GWB wouldn't know good rock music if it came up and bit him in the ass.

13. Except in Kerry's case the machines add to the complications. There is no
proof to be had AFTER the vote. Rigged machines are set up for onetime use and then leave no tracks.

Machines need to be secured BEFORE the vote.

How is that a good answer?

How much more time does he need to "frame" the fact that the election was stolen? hell, it was stolen back in 2000.....6 years ago!

Isn't part of the Dem problem all of this caution in expressing one's self? How does this make him so great?

Maybe I'm missing something, I just don't know what that is?

Please help me out!

The question--was this election stolen?
The answer--of course it was, because not all of the votes were counted.

What's all that other stuff about? :eyes:

stealing his votes with untraceable programs.

He had all the proof by Sept 2001. How much longer did he need to craft a statement? If Kerry had said this, he'd be crucified, even though he had NO CHANCE of obtaining the certain proof Gore had IN HIS HAND from those in the media who did the actual definitive handcount.

19. Yes, you are right blm! If Kerry would have Hum(ed) and Ham(ed)
as Gore apparently did in the statement about the stolen election posted by the op.......this thread would be a flamefest.

Ironic how that works, isn't it? Nolstagia is a funny thing.

I like Gore OK.....although I don't know a lot of his views on what is currently going on in both Iraq and Iran, and I don't recall him exciting me in anyway in 2000.

Gore now being advertised as the "New" Gore is a bit offputting to me as well, as it gives too much fodder for the opposition....

To be honest, what I saw in 2000 was someone too timid to really speak up until after Bush had spoken right after the election, and then he didn't propose the right approach (which should have been a recount of all of Florida...something he came up once it was too late).

I don't necessarily trust Al Gore's instincts (choosing Lieberman or even endorsing Howard Dean) then....and instincts are something that are hard to make "anew".
