A column I just wrote under my Dissident moniker
I always feel like, somebody’s watching me, and I have no privacy
-Rockwell

Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get me.

Hi and welcome to the USA. The Unlimited Surveillance of America. Feel safer yet? Do you like my new name for our nation? It doesn’t quite have the ring to it that Union of Soviet Socialist Republics does but the copyright on that one doesn’t run out for a while so I had to improvise. A rose, or a fascist society, by any other name still smells as sweet however and if we can’t have the moniker of what was once the greatest threat to our freedoms at least we’re striving to be like them.

Anybody remember the cold war? You know the one we fought against Russia and China before our leaders started looking into the Russian leader’s soul and before China owned all our debt and sold us everything we use. Russia was the U.S.S.R. back then and China was, well China, and it was actually more of a stalemate than an actual war. Once we were through the clusterf*cks known as Korea and Vietnam we barely fired a shot. Mostly a lot of fist shaking and speech making and reminding each other that we all had a million nukes pointed at each other. I, like many grew up in this time. Soviet Union was “The evil empire” and the primary source of that evil, I was taught by family and teacher alike, was the suppression of the freedoms and surveillance of their own citizens. This above all other things seemed so anathema to us as Americans that we would risk global nuclear war to prevent such oppression from happening here. Can you tell where I’m going with this yet or shall I elaborate?

It has come to light recently that the National Security Agency’s “Terrorist Surveillance Program” not only monitors incoming and outgoing international calls as our President claims but in fact has been monitoring the phone records of nearly every American.

Nothing to hide, why worry? Some polls suggest nearly half the country holds this view.

You sheeple, you pathetic excuses for Americans, you defecators on the sacred texts of our union, your usefulness is over. We don’t want you anymore. We want America back. We will not have our liberties traded for fear. We will not waive our rights for your fuzzy, cozy feelings of our King keeping us safe. Extrapolate in your mind the extremes of abuse this opens. Orwell was spot on if only a little off with his timing. Nothing to hide? Who cares! Who I call and when and how often are my business. It is my right as an American citizen to have a right to privacy until I decide to give it up. The only way to do that is give a judge probable cause that I should be monitored. Sloppy, imperfect system? Absolutely but it’s ours and it’s been the law for over 200 years and no climate of fear or administration that thinks it’s exempt from the rule of law, or the fact that we are in the midst of a war that we manufactured trumps our constitution. So when you answer your phone be sure to say first “Thank you for calling the NSA phone database. This call will probably be monitored for terrorist or dissident activity so please choose your words carefully and if you are by chance calling from a Middle Eastern country or are of Middle Eastern descent, then I’m sorry we don’t know you please don’t call here again.”

Said it before and I’ll say it again. This is not America folks. I’m looking for her but the road is getting darker. Now if you’ll excuse me a black van just pulled up out front and some men are coming to the door. Ignore me at your peril.
Dissident out.
