Abramoff probe focusses on democrats (and a few republicans)
http://washingtontimes.com/national/20060110-115655-1555r.htm

<snip>

A Justice Department investigation into influence-peddling on Capitol Hill is focusing on a "first tier" of lawmakers and staffers, both Republicans and Democrats, say sources close to the probe that has netted guilty pleas from lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Law-enforcement authorities and others said the investigation's opening phase is scrutinizing Sens. Conrad Burns, Montana Republican; Byron L. Dorgan, North Dakota Democrat; and Minority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, along with Reps. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, and Bob Ney, Ohio Republican.

2. I've seen this before.........
They're citing Dorgan and Reid because they had ties to the Natives ..........and received money from them which they gave back. It's more crap, as far as I can see.

I've got a freeper on another board telling me how teddy kennedy and others should get thrown out..........and be replaced by them upstanding 'publicans.

Don't forget to mention that the Republicans received their money before the vote on the casino issue and the democrats received their donations after they voted. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that people (including indian tribes) donate to representatives that act in their best interests. That's how the system is supposed to work. :)

10. Something else I'd like to see
is a listing of how long Dems have been recieving money from certain tribes, compared to how long Abramoff had those tribes as clients. It has been said that certain Dems have been getting tribal donations for far longer than Abramoff has been involved, but it would be nice to see it represented in a chart or a listing or something.

Does opensecrets.org go back that far?

14. I believe they go back to the 2000 election cycle
The FEC may go back even further.

Try Political Money Line at this link, http://www.fecinfo.com/

They seem to go back to 1993/94.

http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2006/Jan-12-Thu-2006/news/5324874.html

WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department is not focusing on Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada as part of an investigation of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, a source close to the probe said Wednesday in challenging a published report.

The source, who requested anonymity, said the Justice Department is leading the investigation, which includes other agencies.

But the Justice Department does not have a list of lawmakers who are being investigated," the source said.

The Washington Times reported Wednesday that Reid is on a "first tier" of five lawmakers who are the focus of a Justice Department probe of Abramoff.

The newspaper attributed its information to an unnamed source who is working with the Justice Department.

The other lawmakers mentioned included Sens. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., and Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and Reps. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., and Bob Ney, R-Ohio.

A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment on the Washington Times story.

"The department has not and will not discuss individuals who have not been charged," Justice Department spokesman Bryan Sierra said.

Speaking in Salt Lake City, Reid angrily denied the report."

11. How they lie to protect their republican slime, absolutely no scuples...
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 01:11 AM by Zinfandel
As if the republican, Times, declaration, is suppose to frighten off the democrats and the democratic process...What a bluff, what bullshit!

These slimly fucking republicans don't give a shit about what's corrupt or fair as long it doesn't affect their agenda of kickbacks and stealing our tax dollars.

As they desperately try and stick the blame anywhere other than where it truly belongs.
