Keyblogger Hardward in New Dell Laptop Computers??
I ran across this post at Bartcop.com

http://ivlad.unixgods.net/lj/key...keylog/ klog.htm

Dell Computers working with the Dept Homeland Security to install a HARDWARE KEYLOGGER IN ALL NEW LAPTOP COMPUTERS THEY SELL.

The pictures of the device, and the written response from DHS almost guarantee that this is part of the NSA surveillance of internet surfers.

Anyone else know anything about this????

1. I don't know but I do know how you can get rid of it!
www.sunbelt-software.com ... it finds and you delete it ... 15 day free trial for CounterSpy.

Don't buy a Dell - they are crappy computers anyway! :grr:

2. Welcome to DU... Now, please also introduce yourself to Snopes.com
Keyboard Loggers

Claim: Account claims Dell is selling computers with keyboard loggers installed at the behest of the Department of Homeland Security.

Status: False.

Example: {Collected on the Internet, 2005}

<snip>

Origins: Given the prevalent public fear of governmental snooping into private activity, the discovery that personal computers were being sold with devices that enabled the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to monitor keystrokes would have a rather chilling effect. Most of us now use computers in so many different facets of our lives, from personal correspondence to shopping, that recording and analyzing everything we typed on one would provide a great deal of information about us.

Although furtive eavesdropping on computer activity is certainly possible, the specific tale presented above is nothing more than an example of "government conspiracy" type hoaxlore. It originally appeared on www.chromance.de (from which it has since been removed, although it remains mirrored elsewhere), a site which carried several other obvious hoaxes. The graphics for the article were lifted from another site's page about commercial keyboard loggers, and the purported letter from the Department of Homeland Security appears to be an altered version of someone else's example of correspondence from the DHS.

4. Snopes says no. And Bart should know better.
I know he does a great job with no staff and all, but answering that question took me less than 20 seconds.

12. snopes.com is your friend -> false.
Be skeptical of everything you read on the internet.

In any case, why would the facist goons need to install key loggers when they have open access to the whole damned 'net?

10. Although I wouldn't put it past DHS or BushCo there are too many sites
that say this is a hoax including Snopes and some tech sites.

Actually if one thinks about it would be much easier amd make more sense to use an app hidden inside another app (trojan) versus hardware if you really wanted to keep a log of someone's activities.
