Deja-fucking vu: "Bolton: Iran regime can stay if ends arms pursuit"
Bolton: Iran regime can stay if ends arms pursuit
May 22, 2006

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - John Bolton, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said on Monday that Iran's leaders could stay in power and improve their ties with Washington if they ended their pursuit of nuclear arms.

(snip)

"...if (the rulers in Tehran) give up their long-standing support for terrorism and they give up their pursuit of weapons of mass destruction, that their regime can stay in place and that they can have a different relationship with the United States and the rest of the world," he said.

Now, why does that ring a bell?... Oh, yeah!...

Saddam can stay if he disarms, Powell says
October 22, 2002

(snip)

Mr Powell, raising the possibility that the US might not seek "regime change" as it has repeatedly promised over the past 18 months, said on Sunday that if Saddam abandoned his chemical, nuclear, and biological programs, the Government would be altered so dramatically that in effect the goal would be reached.

"We think the Iraqi people would be a lot better off with a different leader, a different regime," he said, "but the principal offence here is weapons of mass destruction ... The major issue before us is disarmament."

6. Awww, ain't that nice?
Good Ol' Uncle Sam will allow the Iranians to keep their little government, as long as they play nice and don't do anything naughty. Isn't that lovely? All they have to do is obey Uncle Sam in all things and they'll be fine. Hell, we'll even let them be our friend. Not a close friend, mind, more like the kind of friend you exchange Christmas cards with (although we won't be exchanging Christmas cards, of course, 'cause of their weird religion). Of course, we'll have to keep a really close eye on them to make sure they're not acting up, but that's no problem. We are supporting several anti-government terrorist groups and they'll keep us posted on everything those Persian scamps get up to.

The same goes for any other country: as long as their response is 'how high?' when we say 'jump!' the World will be a safe and happy place.

7. Bolton is not the real Ambassador. So his statements should be disregarded
he was not duly confirmed by the Senate.

America has no Ambassador to the UN.

8. And when do you, Mr. Bolton, produce any evidence that Iran is
pursuing nuclear arms? And I mean absolute proof, not the bulls**t stuff you Neocons put together as evidence in Iraq.

9. Um... don't get carried away.

While it's far from proved, it looks much more likely than not that Iran is trying to aquire nuclear weapons. That's a big difference from Iraq right there.

That's not to say that invading it is justified, by any means, though.
