Maybe just maybe if employers can't stay in business if the minimum wage is raised, maybe just maybe they're lousy businessmen and shouldn't be in business in the first place?

1. Funny how they can find piles of money to pay one person (CEO) but, |

can't stand the thought of paying employees often the very face of the company any thing. Don't get me wrong if you start a business as the owner you deserve every dime you get. But there a lot of public companies out there paying very low wages to employees while way over compensating executives.

5. Not to mention incresing tax and social security revenues. |

If there is one source of DEEP SHAME for conservatives in both parties, it's how low they've allowed the minimum wage to fall in purchasing power.
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

3. Oh they could stay in business, they just couldn't... |

... buy the new Benz for the Mrs. next year... Don't you think it's worth making families suffer with those wages, so the Mrs. can be happy...?

4. Well, they all scream bloody murder for the first month, make all |
|
sorts of threats, but the types of businesses that pay minimum wage see their business increase far above what it's cost to pay the help a little more decently.
Then they shut up for a while, takes about a month.
The next time Congress threatens to hike the minimum again, all those small businessmen start to screech all over again, thinking we don't remember what happened the last time.
And so it goes.
Small businessmen do take a hit in their own wallets for a month, maybe two. Then they're doing so much better from the increase in their customer base that they more than make up for it.
Don't expect them to give a rise in wages the credit, though.

No, they aren't necessarily that bad. But new businesses flounder because of lack of capital. Raising the capital necessary through laws just helps established companies avoid new competition.
Americans are so lacking in entrepreneurial ambition now, they let these big corporations take over, feel entitled to jobs from these corporations, but have permanently assigned the capitalist role to others. And then complain about them when they aren't humane.
Yet it never seems to occur to Americans to get together and start their own company.
