ACTION ITEM: Email, write or telephone Ben Nelson
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 01:48 AM by Horse with no Name
Put him on notice. If he votes to confirm Alieto--then he better look for another means of support for his stupid ass.

A Democratic senator issued positive comment as well. "So far I have seen nothing during my interview with the nominee, the background materials that have been produced or through the committee process that I would consider a disqualifying issue against Judge Alito," Sen. Ben Nelson (news, bio, voting record), D-Neb., said.

This asshat only had 51% in his last election. He is removeable. Cmon folks in Nebraska, we can certainly do better than this guy.

2. Somewhat off-topic
When is Nelson up for re-election and isn't it likely that he'd lose to a Repug anyway? NE is quite a red state.

5. In fighting all the evil, Abramoff isn't the only villain here
In this instance, it's that sneering piece of shit Alieto.
He can't wait to attain the power so that he can proceed to pick off our rights, one by one.
Reminds me of "revenge of the nerds".

I like it when people do something when things get ban instead of complaining about it.

12. Good 'ol Ben, the repubs can always count on him
I didn't even need to hear his statement to know how he felt about scAlito. Amazing.

Thanks for the info, I will contact his office. We should produce a list of the usual suspects (those who torpedo the Dems whenever they stand for what is most important) so we can get busy on their arse's right from the gate.

13. Be careful what you say...
or the Nelson apologists will get you. You'll be hit with the "He represents Nebraska, so his votes have to be more conservative." crowd (even though Ben's voting record in more pukie than NE Republican Senator).
You might also get hit with the..."We're a coalition party. So stop being so devisive!" crowd.

14. That crowd slays me
Brian Schwietzer, Governer of Montana doesn't play that game, it is utter BS for any other elected official to use that lame excuse. Montana is strong red, but Schwietzer was true blue in how he appealed to them--pro-choice=privacy, gay marrage=privacy/gov out of our lives, etc.. Schwietzer did what all Dems are supposed to do--explain to your prospective constituents why the Dem platform is better for them/why it better represents them & their interests.

Persuasion is a key charactoristic of leadership. Begin with what you believe in, and then convince others why they should believe in it too. I cannot for the life of me understand why a Dem would BEGIN with the premise that the Dem principles are not worth fighting for; I think such an elected person is not worthy of calling themselves a Dem.

15. Can someone help me?
I have never contacted a politician before, but Alito has motivated me to do so. Even though I'm not from Nebraska, I've watched Ben Nelson closely since I saw him on the Daily Show claiming to be a "moderate". He is a disgrace and I'd like to send him a note, but I have no idea what to write. I know to be polite and keep it short/to the point, but does anyone have any ideas for a first time letter writer? Or a website I can go to for pointers? I'd really appreciate it.
