Group Attacks Anti-Gay Protesters At Marine's Funeral
SEAFORD, Del. -- Five people in Delaware face criminal charges after clashing with members of a Topeka church protesting the weekend funeral of a Marine killed in Iraq.

Police stood between the protesters and counter-demonstrators, some of whom tossed eggs, stones and water bottles at the picketers from Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church. The church believes U.S. casualties in Iraq are God's retribution for America's support of homosexuality.

One of the five was charged with assault while the others were cited for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

1. played right into Phelp's hands
this is what he wants. Watch-he'll sue them for all they are worth. That's how he makes his money.

another good example of how Repukes and the religious right "support the troops"- turning a funeral into a political statement...what unspeakable scumbags. Sounds to me like they deserve what they had dished out to them. A funeral is not the time or the place for a demonstration. Especially the funeral of a person who died in the service of our country. I wonder why those "good Christians" had no thought or courtesy for the feelings of the family of the deceased? I'll bet "Jaysus the Lawd" would be so proud of them.

3. Actually, it was most likely right wingers and repubs
who attacked them.

Phelps and his crew are not right wingers or left wingers, they're just fucking nut jobs.

5. It's possible, too, that the attackers were liberals
since my crowd of liberal friends and family would become raging beasts if these loathsome people showed up at my Marine son's funeral. Yes, mild-mannered earth muffin vegetarians would be seething with rage if these smug "Christians" with their placards decrying "fags" came to disrespect a fallen soldier with their own agenda of hate.
Phelps crew is an equal opportunity target for violence. They offend everyone.

4. Good for them.
I'd take pleasure in whacking one of those fools with a bottle.
