WHY are NOLA defendants
still in jail with no representation? Couldn't they ahve been taken to another jurisdiction for trial?
This is another tidbit of NOLA that we should be ashamed of.According to MSNBC there are many
quote.....
By law, the state of Louisiana has no more than 60 days to charge someone arrested for a crime, but Hurricane Katrina has left hundreds of inmates behind bars with no access to a lawyer.

We interviewed one man, Ace Martin, who was arrested for an alleged fistfight a few days before the storm. He was evacuated from the Orleans Parish Prison the night Katrina hit, and bounced around to different prisons around the state. Five months later, he was still in jail.

1. We don't honor the 4th or 5th amendments anymore.
They died around 2002, along with the 1st.

6. And that was the plan
As long as half the country could be convinced all they needed was their gun to protect their rights, the real rights could be whittled away, one at a time. Lawyers protect our civil rights, not gun owners.

8. Same with abortion
As long as they "fight for the unborn", how can anybody accuse them of not caring about human life!!! If somebody sat down and calculated all of this out, I'd sure like to know who that person was because that person would be the anti-Christ.

2. Or they could have used Second City Court in Algiers
that's the section of the city across the Mississippi on the West Bank, not a North African capital. That section of the city experienced no flooding.

I suspect the difficulty may have been with empaneling juries while so many residents were evacuated. Even then, though, better to let defendants plead down to a lesser charge, and avoid trial, than to allow this to go on.

4. Agreed
for all the minor crimes. IF it was for (murder) or another felony they should have been taken to another jurisdiction.

no one cares.
