The "Bipartisan Corruption" ploy is BACKFIRING!
Edited on Wed May-24-06 07:51 PM by johnaries
Everyone I've talked to- Repuke, Indy, Dem, other - when I mention that Hastert and other Repukes were the first to condemn the FBI search of William Jefferson's office, all have the same reaction:

Of COURSE they did! They don't want to be searched either! They're afraid they'll get caught! They're f*cking hypocrites!

It's amazed me how much vitriol is in their voice when they say it!

I was willing to concede that Jefferson was probably guilty, but no one even seemed to care about Jefferson. They are majorly PISSED at Congress!

Granted, most of them say they are pissed at "all of them". It appears they still don't like Democrats very much, but they absolutely HATE Republicans.

Considering all of the anti-Liberal spin. That's a good first step:

Step 1: I don't like Dem's, but I hate Repub's even more.
Step 2: Maybe Dem's aren't so bad after all....
Step 3: Hey, that Dem is making sense....

edit: spelling, of course!

3. Check this link - Hastert is also under investigation by the FBI !!

(snip)
Federal officials say the Congressional bribery investigation now includes Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, based on information from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.

Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote three years ago, urging the Secretary of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed with other tribes.

The other tribes were represented by convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff who reportedly has provided details of his dealings with Hastert as part of his plea agreement with the government.
(snip)

No wonder Hastert suddenly "went Constitutional" - he's trying to save his own fat ass!

5. There's Another Side to This, Though
The FBI has never treated a congressman like that. Yes maybe they're all crooks, but the FBI was pretty brutal to Jefferson, from what I've heard. When I heard what had happened, my immediate reaction was that the Bush admin. had proved that they were fascists. When they "went Gestapo" in the past, they made the excuse that it was because of the war on terror. They can't give that excuse this time--Jefferson isn't an al-Qaeda terrorist. So what else could be the reason? Fascism!

6. Jefferson was a freelancer. The Republican corruptness is fundemental
to their Syndicate. Big difference.

7. DUers knew it was a ham-fisted act; it's good to here that other people
see it that way too.

It's more of the piehole effect: people don't believe what the pResident says, so when he comes out to defend his administration, it has the opposite of the intended effect.

Rec'd.

9. Did anyone ever think about the judge that ordered this warrant?
What kind of judge would issue a warrant on a Congreesman's office?

Did he/she have no clue about the implications of this?

Here's a case of a member of the judicial branch issuing a warrant on a member of the legislative branch on request of a member of the administrative branch.

No hesitations or second thoughts there?

10. ... And then they came for the Legislative branch ...
Has this administration demonstrated ANY self-restraint at any point in the last five years?
Hesitations? Second thoughts? How "quaint".

11. Well, I know the administration doesn't
But I was thinking about the judge specifically. Don't they read the constitution?

13. Look at the current crop of judges.
There is a tremendous amount of corruption and disregard for the law going on right now.

12. Wait until we think about impeaching Bush...
I wonder how many FBI searches we could've prevented by understanding the profound implications of what has been done?

WE ARE NOT THE BRITISH STATES OF AMERICA BECAUSE KING GEORGE THE THIRD USED TO INTIMIDATE MEMBERS OR THE HOUSE OF COMMONS!!!!!!!

I think you all fail to see how you are being used as pawns. The President wants you to attack the Congress.

The Roman Republic failed because Julius Caesar grabbed power from a "corrupt and self-interested" Senate. The people hated the Senate so much they let Caesar get away with his power grab. Little did the people know that Nero or Caligula would one day rule over their land.

We will pay dearly if we cannot understand how grave this is.
