on the corner of federal highway and oakland park blvd
in ft. lauderdale, in the parking lot facing the corner, there was a mobile police observation tower parked there today.

i don't know how long it's been there...i don't know what purpose or function it serves there, it is an observation tower with either cameras or worse mounted on it. it is very freaky looking. it reeks of a jacbooted police state.

2. Police presence in that area is always high
It's those Haitians dontcha know. A mobile tower is a new twist though, I think I may have to drive by and have a look at that. I didn't even know they HAD such a thing.

5. yes, mobile tower, built on a forklif or hydraulic of some sort ...
must have air conditioning in it to--the shape of it reminds of the lookout towers (bridge tender towers) all across our intracoastal ways. yesterday too, come out of some other shopping center in the ft. lauderdale area i saw a uniformed "Border Patrol" with a couple of manila folders in his hands. My unmitigated guess...the guy was probably looking for some ...

illegal immigrant already well inside our borders :sarcasm:

what else could he have been looking for?

3. that's a observation tower, as you guessed
it normally has a radio link and they can control the cameras from remote. They put it there most likely as that is a spot that has lots of traffic accidents. If its one of the big white ones that a person can get in, then it also for adding "presence" to the area in an effort to reduce local crime. Note, the white ones actually don't have a remote link setup on them, they are phyc only, sometimes they put an officer in them during events. They tend to drop the white ones where hookers and drug dealers hang out. If its an orange one, it belongs to the DOT and its for traffic only. I used to work for them, i setup the situational radio links for the officers and task forces.

6. hey there and hi there -- thanks for your interesting post.
it is a white observation tower and it does look like the ones along our intracoastal waterways (you know, the bridge tender ones). in these jackbooted police state times, one tends to attribute much more nefarious business transactions to the placing of an observation tower on any corner, than just the mere traffic (or hookers and drug) control.

your post is enlightening. i thank you for it.

7. Does it look like this one?

Sky Tower - mobile Border Patrol observation post along Cocaine Alley. The corridor is also known as OTM Alley (Other Than Mexican Alley) because of the high number of non-Mexican illegal aliens apprehended in the area.

found pic here through a Google search:

If so, it's not something I'd expect to see on a city street corner. (but then again, I don't get out much)
