Stephen Colbert 'Feuds' With AP Over Word "TRUTHINESS"

NEW YORK - Stung by a recent Associated Press article that didn't credit him for coining the word "truthiness," Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert has struck back.

The world's oldest news organization, Colbert says, is the "No. 1 threat facing America."

On Wednesday evening, Colbert placed the AP atop the Threat Down segment of "The Colbert Report" show. What was No. 2?

Bears.

In October, on Colbert's debut episode of the "Daily Show" spinoff, the comedian defined "truthiness" as truth that wouldn't stand to be held back by facts. The word caught on, and last week the American Dialect Society named "truthiness" the word of the year.

"The fact that they looked it up in a book just shows that they don't get the idea of truthiness at all," Colbert said Thursday. "You don't look up truthiness in a book, you look it up in your gut."

Colbert, who referred on his program to the AP omission as a "journalistic travesty," said Thursday that it was similar to the much-criticized weapons of mass destruction reporting leading up to the Iraq War.

"Except," he said, "people got hurt this time."

1. The man cracks me up.
I didn't think I was going to care for his show in the beginning.
But now I like it as well, if not better, than Jon Stewart.
It's great to have an hour long comedy show worth watching !!(Stewart and Colbert)

3. I completely agree
It's only taken him a few months but every word is directly on, seemless hilarious comedy.

I tape both-it boils down to about 40 minutes in total without the commercials.

22. I agree
I was really looking forward to his show and after the first episode, I liked what I saw, but I wasn't sure if he could keep it up. Now, I think I *MIGHT* just like The Colbert Report slightly more than The Daily Show (I still love The Daily Show, but I tend to zone out during some of the Daily Show interviews).

Made it seem as though he agreed with him then asked backhanded questions about the "invisible hand of the market" replacing FAA regulations.

13. My Right Wing Friend thinks that his act is for real...
He said to me, "At least there is something truthful on CC, the Daily Show is a Bush bashing haven, my side is has a voice now"

I replayed, "First off, this is what is wrong with America, your side vs my side, I hope you are happy, and second, you know that is all a joke, it is a very bush bashing show"

He walked away as he told me, "No, it is a show for us real Americans..." or something to that effect.

I have a clip from TDS of Colbert's interview with Mary Carey (Carey: "I've never farted for any other interview ever before. You're my first fart." Colbert: "Well, that's what we in the news biz call an exclusive."). Cracks me up every time!

31. Just Pour Vu! Video link!
"Oh Hi, I didn't see you there in the sprinkler head!"

Here's the video

And more links:

Colbert's segment "So You're Living In A Police State," a lampoon on the Patriot Act, opens with a slightly bird's-eye-view of Colbert entering his bathroom, as he whistles nonchalantly and urinates. He then turns to the camera in surprise.
Oh, hi! I didn't see you there in the sprinkler head!
