[vent] So yesterday, in traffic.....
I was sitting at a light in my car, stewing, over some really annoying, petty bullshit that happened at my job (where I have only been for 3 or 4 months and now desperately want out of).

Lately, driving around has been SO MUCH more fun here, as the crop of W stickers seemed to have dwindled quite a bit. And more liberal stuff has been popping up right and left.

This was at the border of Highland Park (old money assholes and new money poseurs buying old money property so they can look more respectable) in Dallas, so you can expect what I saw.

I sensed some movement in my rearview mirror, so looked up to see two teenaged boys (all of about 17 or 18), in a Trans-Am, obviously so disturbed by my DU bumper sticker that they were giving me thumbs down signs and making little W's with their fingers, and honking, and mouthing shit to me.

After the day I'd had, I really had no desire to deal with their petty immature bullshit, so I turned onto a much busier street and tried to blend into traffic so they'd have to stay behind me. They followed, just as fast, JUST so they could keep fucking with me.

They drove past, still honking and flipping me W's. Normally, I would have flipped them the finger, but I was so exhausted and pissed (already), and knew that if I did, my head would explode. But if they'd pulled up next to me at the light, I'd be in jail right now for smashing their windshield or somesuch, I'm sure.

So, here they are, in a car that daddy has most likely purchased for them, driving around casually (because they can), "supporting the pResident", and yet thousands of healthy soldiers are dying every day so that little shits like them are free to be assholes. Why aren't you guys in Iraq, you little chickenhawk sons-of-bitches?!

Tell ya what guys...we'll see how you're feeling in a few years when they have no choice but to re-instate the draft and you're in an army hospital missing a limb or two because you couldn't get the body armor you needed.

FUCK I want out of this stupid state.

3. I've got one of nostamj's bumper stickers
and it says "Support Bush? ENLIST NOW!!!" In small letters underneath it says "The soldiers in Iraq are dying for your help!"

Yeah, I don't get any Freeper punks with their little W finger signs. I'd toss 'em an enlistment form anyway which is something we should all carry with us for just such occassions.

4. Most kids that age just repeat what they hear...

... at home... I live in a pretty conservative town and volunteered to go on a trip to Ellis Island with my daughter's High School. While on the ferry, the subject turned to politics and I couldn't hold my tongue. I started debating the issues with a couple of seniors, knuckleheads like you described above, and was amused to find out that they were full of crap... While they handed me the classic talking points, the ones I'm sure they heard Mom and Dad spout at home, when I dug a little deeper and asked them to explain, they just stuttered and made themselves look like fools... In no time at all, a crowd of fifty teens surrounded us and to my surprise, were listening to this exchange intently... Within minutes, each time the boys couldn't answer my questions, a loud roar of applause came from the crowd and I was a "hero" for the rest of the trip... Many kids came to me asking questions and I was happy to talk to them about this as I discovered many of them were not buying what their parents were feeding them...

My point is, many of these nuckleheads only repeat the stupid Repuke talking points they've been fed at home but ask them any question about any of these issues and they haven't a clue...

8. Way to go, NJ!
Everyone should be this willing to educate these little parrots. I was exactly the same way through high school and colege. I figured since Ronald Reagan was so popular, there must be a reason...sure I'd vote for him.

Fortunately for my self respect, I never did. Didn't vote for the first time until 1996 for Big Dawg.

Oh believe me....if I'd had more than 5 minutes with these little punks, I would have eaten them for lunch rhetorically. Unfortunately, I was not up for a confrontation this time (ask any one of the Dallas DUers-- I never back off from a chance to get in someone's face...)

17. The little parrots...
... Teehee... I like that, that's funny... Although I wouldn't honor them with that term since parrots have been shown to certainly be able to think for themselves, more than can be said for some kids today...

I think you handled the situation the other day perfectly, had you gotten mad and gave it back to them, it only makes our cause look weaker. These days, I try to only fight with my words, if a debate gets "ugly" or personal, the debate is over immediately and the other side just looks foolish... It really doesn't solve a damn thing to get mad and it just makes us look as bad as them.

We just need to keep talking to these kids... They are our future...!

I'm very proud of the way you handled yourself the other day as I know it couldn't have been easy for you! A true sign of smarts and maturity! Kudos... :applause:

5. Noticed a couple of Kerry stickers
Just this Tuesday. Really havn't been looking one way or the other. My commute is very early AM and early afternoon so I rarely get a bunch of traffic, but on the way to a concert I saw a couple which just seemed kinda nice. Yes, there are fewer and fewer W stickers, but the election is long over and some of that is just normal as well.

12. sticker
So, is that the sticker you had on your car?

I hate driving. I really hate driving after working at a hellish job. I worked briefly as a stock borker at a highly disreputable firm. It was really wearing on me since I had bills, wasn't making any money, and realized if I was making money that would mean I was successfully screwing people to the wall. I'm hitting the interstate on the way home and someone who looked like a construction company owner cut me off. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid getting smeared. He had one of those F-350 penis compensators, chromed and shit, complete with those shiny lockable toolboxes. I lay on the horn and he stops his truck right in the middle of the onramp. He gets out of his truck, Mr. polo shirt and mirrored glasses, challenging me to step up to the plate and Fuck Wit Da Man. I could feel my foot moving to the accellerator. I was ready to run him down.

That's when I realized I needed to quit my job.

We live in a toxic environment in this country. People are walking around on edge and all it takes is someone pushing them that last inch too far and then there will be blood. Thing is, it could just as easily be me with a bumper sticker being "the last straw." I've seen people here talk about how their cars have been vandalized for having liberal bumper stickers. It's not good to live with this kind of anger. It burns you from the inside out. But how do you not get angry? It's a reaction to the world we live in. It'd be one thing if everything were idylic and the angry person is obviously reacting poorly, like being grouchy smurf. But if the smurfs lived in our world, the only happy ones would be the ones not paying attention.

21. Nah, I just liked it as a sig line.
I just have the basic "Democratic Underground" black design, and an Air America sig that reprehensor cut in vinyl before they had bumper stickers readily available in Dallas. Those are our biggest ones. We also havve a peeling off "Amnety" International one and a tiny one for a pipefitters union that reprehensor's brother belongs to up in Alberta.

You're right about the toxic environment. And when things get really bad, all it takes is a light to the fuse.

I'm amazed I held it together as well as I did. I don't usually.

15. They're just parroting...hopefully reality will set in on them one day...
I went to a Lutheran high school in suburban Detroit, and the majority of the white kids (the school was about 70 percent white, 29 percent black, 1 percent Asian and Hispanic) were supporters of Bush I. But many of those same kids in college became raging liberals, feminists and activists. There's hope.

They rear-end you, you file a police report, they look like dumbasses when they try to bitch at the cops "It was HER fault . . . she had those . . . stickers . .. and . . COME ON!", you get your bumper fixed and make them 5 to 8 hundred dollars poorer, all because they love their Presidunce and had to be little dumbass schmucks in letting you know it.

No, don't leave Texas, just move down to Austin. I lived in Irving for about 10 years and now have been in the Austin area about 10 years. Austin is much better; although they are building a 7 layer highway interchange / toll road that makes the mixmaster look sane.

Stickers on my truck tailgate get lots of positive feedback around here.

37. I was tailgated a bit by an Exploder this morning...
when it was far enough back from me to see its front bumper, I saw it was well-dented-in. Finally he got in a turn lane and went ahead of me...and there was a Bush-Cheney 04 sticker on it. Maybe he was incensed at my DU sticker in my back window (my boss contributes quite a bit and has extras, he gave me one...I'll be slipping some change via MO when I can, have to do it on the sly as my wife would kill me if I put a website contribution on the card...) Nice to have a DUer as a boss... :)

Boy was that ever a shock...NOT.
