China has said that a report from the Pentagon that "exaggerates" its military strength betrays ulterior motives on the part of the US. snip

He said that the US should stop selling weapons to Taiwan, and said Beijing would "definitely not tolerate Taiwan independence" or allow anyone to separate Taiwan from China.

The Pentagon's report said that China was upgrading its long-range ballistic missile force. It said these were capable of striking the United States and most of the rest of the world.

It estimated China's spending at two to three times the country's stated $35 billion defence budget. However, China pointed out that its budget was dwarfed by what the United States spends on its military.

No one is allowed to challenge U.S. hegemony. Only the U.S. is wise and benevolent enough to possess a huge arsenal of weapons. Our leaders aren't greed-driven warmongers. We would only use our weapons to protect, not on foolish wars of choice or faux efforts to allegedly "spread democracy."

I would suggest the book "The New American Militarism" by Andrew Bacevich (probably have the spelling off on that). Excellent read into the military - industrial complex. This is just the Inflatable Chinese Threat Doll used by the Pentagon to get bigger and bigger budgets. Of course our policies are pretty screwed up and require huge military spending to support them.
