Why do we need the Blue Angels buzzing Downtown NYC all morning?
Seriously, why is it so important to have the stunt flying team "the Blue Angels" flying 300 feet above our building here in Lower NYC? Is it to make us feel safe? It had very much the opposite effect us today as we heard that sound we had heard on the morning of 9-11. The sound of jets going way to fast way too low.

What is the point to this? If they really want to impress us get in a time machine and get those fuckers in the air on the morning of 9-11 when they may have done some good. Right now they are just freaking NYers out and wasting a lot of fuel in the process.

1. It's better than 2 years ago
when they had a crop duster blowing smoke out the back being intercepted by an F18 over the East River.

3. Is there an airshow nearby?
They may either be performing or practicing for a performance.

Yeah, they burn a lot of fuel, but the precision flying *is* impressive as heck to watch. I love seeing them and the Thunderbirds..talented pilots. Too bad they have such a horrible man as their CiC...I feel sorry for them.

5. Practicing over the most densely populated real estate in America?
If two of those planes were to happen to collide, as they sometimes do,

...and crash into the new WTC-7 building setting it on fire and destroying it, it would be, you know, very ironic.

4. Agreed.
I woke up to that sound a little after 9am...and I'm way uptown (106th W side.) It IS ominous, and I leapt to the computer to find out how the Reich Wing had compromised us this time.
So what ARE they doing up there???

Thanks for mentioning this, Sterling.

7. I dislike it as well...
My least favorite time of the year used to be Fleet Week in San Francisco - the Blue Angels would buzz my building and my dog would go absolutely nuts. I lived on a hill and they'd get so close I could see the pilots. Traumatic for my dog and a guaranteed migraine for me.

This guys aren't infallible, and flying over a densely populated area seems just stupid.

11. They were way too close for comfort.
It's like being in the car with some asshole who wants to show off his dukes of hazzard driving skills and does not mind risking your life to get his kicks.

8. Just to show they have no problem with the price of fuel.

.... as long as you're paying for it.

9. Well, they might just be flying around as part of their publicity push
However if they're doing stunts, or practicing for the air show, they are being completely irresponsible to be doing so over a densely populated area like NYC. One minor mistake could kill dozens of innocent bystanders.

13. they flew in very tight formation 300-600 feet above the six story

buildings on the lower east side. Not all the buildings are this low so the were in some cases flying below the height of many buildings in the city.

By tight formation I mean the one you see on TV where their wings are very close together.

"kill dozens" They actually would more likely kill hundreds if not thousands in a crash over the parts of town they are buzzing. They must think NYers will be impressed and feel all patriotic at this display.
