Bush’s Personal Aide To Enroll at Business School
Gottesman, college dropout and former beau to Bush daughter, to begin in the fall
Published On Monday, May 22, 2006 2:12 AM
By PARAS D. BHAYANI
Crimson Staff Writer

A 26-year-old college dropout who carries President Bush’s breath mints and makes him peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches will follow in his boss’s footsteps this fall when he enrolls at Harvard Business School (HBS).

Though it is rare for HBS—or any other professional or graduate school—to admit a student who does not have an undergraduate degree, admissions officers made an exception for Blake Gottesman, who for four years has served as special assistant and personal aide to Bush.

Gottesman, a Texas native who attended Claremont-McKenna College in California for one year, has long had ties to the Bush family. He dated the president’s daughter, Jenna Bush, nearly ten years ago when he attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal School of Austin.

After completing his freshman year at Claremont in 1999, he left to join the Bush presidential campaign and later served as a junior aide to former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card. In February 2002, he became the president’s personal assistant.

It doesn't make Harvard look very good, sincerely.

8. Core competencies
I used that title mainly because it's in my stack, but the fact of the matter is, the B school is acting true to its real principles here.

On paper, Harvard concentrates on the case study method, which is supposed to give America's future CEOs a hands-on problem solving approach that supposed to work better than those tired old theories they teach in lower-class places like Sloan, Wharton, Chicago, etc.

In practice, the B school allows those who are being groomed to run things to rub shoulders with each other and network their brains out.

B school graduates get hired on the strength of the Harvard reputation (way overvalued IMNSHO) and the connections they've made there.

My dad helped build a company, a local retail chain. They got to the point, over a dozen stores, where they thought they needed "professional" management. They hired a B school alum with stellar recommendations to be CEO. Within a couple years, he'd run the company into the ground, and used some less than legal tactics to try and forstall the inevitable bankruptcy. (Of course I'm just pissed because my trust fund disappeared with it...)

12. Glad to see Harvard so confident in their academic reputation so as to
admit Rovian political errand boy hacks without even a college education to their formerly prestigious business school.
