2. I agree 100%.
This man who sits in the seat reserved for President of the United States is there for only one reason.

or treat it as business as usual. Just like they have done for the past 4 years.

48. Can you pardon someone when the case is still under appeal?
I would assume that if there is no "final" verdict, then there can be no decision to appeal. Is this correct?

19. They've never given a shit about what the country thinks
These are the same motherfuckers that wanted to give no-bid contracts to run the US ports to a company owned by the United Arab Emirates.

These are the same bastards who didn't give two shits about public opinion, laws, or the rule of law during 6 years in power.

Do you think they'll wonder what the rest of us peasants would think when Bush gives his pals Kenny-boy and Skillings generous pardons? That's a big NO!

And if he does, can you imagine the outrage from the former employees who lost their life savings? There will be a huge backlash if he does.

41. I posted this on another thread, but thought it worth re-stating:
Ford's pardon of Nixon probably cost Ford the '76 election. Were Bush to pardon Lay and\or Skilling, the resulting cataclysm would end the Republican Party as we know it and ensure Democratic dominance for a generation, akin to the sea change that occurred in 1932 with FDR.

The outrage would just be too great, if those two were able to slip the bounds of the very prison-industrial-congressional complex they've been so instrumental in creating.

11. No, I don't see any upside for the decider to pardon.
Only downside, in the form of public outrage. Not even his base would be happy with a pardon.

33. Why? What's the upside?
Money? * can get money elsewhere, with no downside.

Maybe if Lay threatens to roll on Cheney, in exchange for a reduced sentence. That's the only potential upside I can see.

He's always willing to disavow fallen comrades. Why should there be any honor among thieves?

24. The president will award
himself a medal of honor for the convictions. He will try to take credit for the DoJ's prosecuting the guys he once called his friends and supporters. It would be wrong to expect the president to show anything close to loyalty to others. He will always take the most self-serving route. Always.

They'll be out on bail for at least 18 months pending appeal.

AFTER the prez election, but before the new prez takes office, Bush pardons.

No one to scream at. He's on his way out.

And just THINK of hte presidential library contribution

appeal, todays news is fodder for the small/slow folk to eat up and the dust then settles. 1/08 Bush pardon announcments to be made.

Look at past history - when folks around him no longer serve any useful purpose they are jettisoned.

Lay is a hindrance to Bush now - by next week Bush will have forgotten his name.

The GOP's scaring voters with the thought that the Dems might impeach? Scare 'em right back with the notion that we must impeach, so that Lay doesn't walk!
