Your Honor, We The Jury Find The Defendants INCREDIBLY Guilty!
Edited on Thu May-25-06 11:58 AM by Plaid Adder
Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling are going to the hoosegow. Allllllllll RIGHT!!!!

I'll tell you something: the only thing that has kept this country from completely dissolving into a sludgepile of irredeemable corruption is the fact that some parts of the justice system still function. Once a nation has completely crossed over to the dark side, things like the Duke Cunningham verdict and this one become impossible because the perpetrators can simply bribe their way through everything. They've got the House, they've got the Senate, they've got the White House, and they've got the Supreme Court, but it is something to know that it is still possible--not common and not easy, but possible--in this country for a rich crook to go to jail. It gives me hope that we will soon see some of Ken Lay's rich crook friends in there with him.

My partner is a lawyer, and though her practice doesn't involve a whole lot of jury trials she has been through a couple. She has always said that the process really gives her faith in the jury system--that the jurors take their responsibilities very seriously and really work to come out with a fair and accurate result. The process can be manipulated, of course, and lawyers get paid big money to manipulate it; but sometimes, the truth comes out and justice gets done anyway.

I look forward to the sentencing hearing...and to seeing yet more justice served against other Texans who are big into conspiracy and fraud.

We need a little Fitzmas, right this very minute,

The Plaid Adder

3. Very guilty.
Kenny Boy gave Bush all that support from the Texas gubernatorial days through Selection 2000. Then the money ran out.

5. Next comes the appeals court which will then over turn the courts
conviction and Ken Lay will not spend one day in jail. Unlike the rest of americans convicted, Lay will be given time to put his life in order before doing time. By that time his appeal will be heard, sentence over turned or reduced and no time served.

6. No. They are NOT going to jail
They will remain free on bail pending appeals which will take at least 18 months.

Just in time for a pardon after the prez elections.

sorry, but i've watched what these sleazebag republicans do for too long

12. Oh damn, I was afraid of that
Do we really allow people to go free on bail during the appeal process after they've been convicted? Can't the judge remand them for that period?

14. Only if he considers them a flight risk
they'll put up a big 10 million dollar bond and a bondsman will basically live with them to make sure they don't flee the country. They have to give up their passports.

but, no they will NOT go to jail until after appeals, if ever

Thank you for explaining, Jacobin. I hope you're wrong about the "if ever" part.

10. it's good, but it's far short of justice
sorry, I didn't mean it as an attack on you

our justice system, even when it works, is dysfunctional (unless you look at it as an organ of capitalism)

9. It's just a reminder of who runs America. The People.
We do.

It's not Bush's America.

I think someone needs to remind him of this...

In Little Lord Pissypant's mind, he's the BIG GUY IN CHARGE. :puke:
