Scary thought: Who will Bush nominate after Alito gets Filibustered?
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 09:48 AM by rpgamerd00d
Any ideas who Bush will nominate?
Someone worse than Alito ?
Could he POSSIBLY nominate anyone we'd ever REMOTELY approve of?
Do we have to filibuster for the next 3 years straight until we get into the White House?

7. I don't think he's going to get filibustered so I haven't even thought
seriously about it. I'm sure someone equally as slimy as Scalito.

4. The same person he nominated after Roberts got filibustered.
He won't need to, because there's not going to be a filibuster.

6. Dobson
What is Fred Phelps up to? I'm sure he'd make the short list of "qualified" candidates. Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Larry the Cable Guy. The possibilities are endless...

10. I don't think there will be a filibuster.
Simply not enough votes. Some of our Democratic Senators are in scarlet states, and will likely jump ship. We just don't have the party discipline that the Republicans do.

Maybe I will be wrong. Wishing.

21. I believe the Dems will attempt a filibuster. If it is
successful, the Republicans will change the Senate rules (aka the nuclear option) to prohibit filibusters on judge appointments and they will then confirm Alito.

As much as some people here at DU are convinced that the minority party can somehow "shut down the Senate" or some other such nonsense, (where do they come up with this stuff? What do they base this belief on?) the minority party doesn't have the power to do what these people suggest, even if every single Democratic Senator sticks together on this.

So I don't belive there will be a next nomination for this seat on the Supreme Court.

13. I like your attitude
I think that there will be a filibuster, and Pickering will be the next one to come up for appointment to the SCOTUS.

15. Yes we have to filibuster for the
next three years. A law breaking fraud has no business making any appointments to the judiciary.

16. I read on another thread
that he could actually appoint Alito as a "recess appointment" in case of a Senate deadlock. Does anybody know about this for certain? SG

17. IF
IF (and that is a huge IF) by some miracle the Dems filibuster, George will just pick some other right wing activist judge who is equally as bad as Alito. Picking someone who is not far, far, far, FAR right is NOT an option for him.

19. My guess is that there will not be enough votes to filibuster
They need 40 and I don't think a single REpublican will join in and some Dems will oppose a filibuster.

I actually believe this is an option. It would revisit the Clinton trials and tribulations when Hillary needs the positive attention.

22. It's a fantasy scenario.
If Alito is not filibustered, the repubs get what they want.

If he is filibustered, the repubs will declare it to be in breach of the agreement and change the rules on filibusters, and they will get what they want.

The only way a filibuster will work is if we get a portion of the repubs to go along with it, and with Abramoff hanging over their heads no one wants to piss off the leadership.

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect that Alito is in. and once again, as with Thomas, the dems will put up with it saying 'how bad can he really be'.

We're about to find out.
