Madonna - Greed over God
In her unending quest for money, publicity and attention, Madonna has finally pushed the envelope right over of the edge of spiritual wisdom into the depths of wholesale depravity. She either doesn’t know, understand or even care that her lack of reverence for the sacred will turn the forces of righteousness operating in the universe against her, which means they may or may not manifest if she calls upon them in times of dire need. Madonna has brought this upon herself by diminishing one of the purest acts of divine love in the history of humanity. By appearing suspended on a mirrored cross in a crucifixion scence during one of her acts on her latest Confessions tour, she is opening herself, her family and seven generations of her ancestors up to potential misfortune. Her mock crucifixion is the most vile form of materialism I’ve ever witnessed in popular entertainment. <snip>

<snip>Madonna thinks S&M, bondadge and torture are so fashionable, why doesn’t she spill her own precious blood to prove it? She curses George W. Bush in one breath, while promoting the same principles he espouses in another through her own actions, which makes her a hypocrite. In fact, Madonna is so vain, even the cross in her mock crucifixion is mirrored. I wonder why — maybe she is afraid of getting splinters? The only thing Madonna’s mock crucifixation proves is that she has fallen to the depths of materialistic sleaze. <snip>

2. Bullshit.
Edited on Thu May-25-06 02:45 PM by greyl
Similar stupidity was heard regarding her video for Like a Prayer because it showed a black man as Jesus being crucified.

edit: Total horseshit here at your link:
"Angels and divine beings aid seekers who earnestly strive to perform good deeds that bring them closer to God, Jesus or whatever deity they worship. Those who defile the sacred objects that embody the highest teachings of Jesus and the saints, despite knowing their importance in promoting world peace, will inevitably be forced to suffer the karmic consequences of their actions."

11. So you don't believe in divine beings or the powers of good and evil...
...that operate in the universe, eh? Then tell me -- how did you get here? Federal Express? Go stand on a beach, then tell me how many grains of sand are under your feet, or find me a scientist who can. You'll find you can't.

30. I believe that nobody is required to honor anyone elses gods.
I also believe that "aura" is an idiot and she isn't being "divine" when making fun of Rosie O'donnell's weight.
I also believe that the OP is a marketing ploy for mysticmaven.

7. The message about kids dying of Aids was sure lost in translation....
now wasn't it. By design, of course. Do you really believe Madonna thought her "AIDS" message was going to be front and center, all while she's staging a mock crucifixion. If you do, I have some swamp land to sell you. But let's get right down to brass tacks -- the only thing Madonna worships is the almighty dollar.

Can you believe Madonna actually had the stones to ask Catholic Church officails for priority seating in St. Peter's Basillica to view the Pope's body? What an absolute hypocrite!

I, for one, have already looked passed the shallow masses who only see the surface, to try and deconstruct the message she is conveying as an artist. To each is own, I guess.

Edited on Thu May-25-06 02:47 PM by rniel
Play the media like a fiddle and laugh her ass off all the way to the bank. There's no such thing as bad press as they say.

There is something kind of wierd about her still needing to be in the spotlight once again after all this time it would've been better to just give it up.

And I'm an atheist so I don't really care about the whole cross thing. I just think this is kinda pathetic.

10. Oh for Goddess' sake!
I'll state my position before launching into my rant: I'm a Christo-Pagan, I happen to believe that Jesus was the son of God/dess and I identify with the Christian faith, mixed with my Pre-Christian Celtic Pagan beliefs.

I also happen to be a Madonna fan.

I am sick of this shit. Madonna has always been up front with her status as a lapsed Catholic. She has always openly criticized the Church and its practices. Anyone "surprised" by this 25 years later can take their indignation elsewhere.

Jesus wasn't the only person the Romans crucified BTW. Thousands were put to death in this manner. He doesn't own the monopoly on it. In fact, Christians are encouraged to "take up their cross and follow him."

Who gets to decide what is sacrilegious?

Madonna is doing what she does best, stir up controversy. If you hate her, ignore her, that's the one thing that would hurt her most.

Or, you can think about what she is trying to say, because she does have meaning behind what she does.

GO MADONNA!! I can't wait to see your show!

14. I don't hate Madonna, but what she did is indefensible and desperate....
...and she should have more respect for the meaning for religious symbols and their significance and not exploit them for financial gain. It is pure bastardization to make money off religious symbols, and it undermines spiritual power. She is messing herself up spirutally without a doubt by her behavior.

"she should have more respect for the meaning for religious symbols and their significance and not exploit them for financial gain."

Back in the '80's, during her "Like A Virgin" days, she would wear rosary beads as accessories. That's all that my point was.

21. "Judge not, lest you yourself be judged"
You don't know what Madonna's motivations are. We could both argue them back and forth ad nauseum. Only God/dess knows for sure why she does what she does.

What is respect for religious symbols, anyway? You and I would probably define it quite differently.

She is provoking people to think.

...of the masses she is entertaining, thereby negatively impacting society. That leads to disharmony and conflict. Is nothing sacred anymore to anyone? It matters.

37. Everyone has to do their part to promote peace and prosperity for ....
...everyone. Peace starts in the home. Then you can heal the person, the community and the planet. The parts make up the whole. All pieces are important to creating a puzzle. In the same way, all of our thoughts and actions impact society. Even the least among us. Even that of the least among us. You cannot fragment the truth.

In every concert of her's that I've seen - 3 different tours - the anti-racism, anti-homophobia, anti-sexism, anti-war message is what I come away with. And yes she uses religious imagery, but usually to make some kind of statement. Her fans get it.

Madonna gets people like this all worked up and spitting venom, while she sits back and watches. Madonna has always been good at shock and uses it to compensate for her lack of talent. I do find it tiresome she's gone back to the sacrilege thing though. Not like her to do a repeat.

And then we start a thread about it and rack up a billion replies about nothing.

in a big way this time to get attention, and of course, money. Everyone is making money off Christ these days. Mel Gibson, Dan Brown and as always, Madonna. Well I'm not buying it. I want to be entertained, not desensitized.

26. Look, there are more important things to worry about
than fantasies and fairy tales. Get a grip. You're living in a dictatorship and there's no invisible cloud being coming down to help you out of it.

Why do we have to respect other people's beliefs? I respect their right to believe anything they want but that doesn't mean that I have to to respect the ridiculous things they might believe.
