New Pew Research Poll on Abortion, Stem Cell Research, Death Penalty, etc

These results are a very mixed bag because there have been some odd tendencies. Moral opposition to abortion, embryonic stem cell research, doctor-assisted suicide, have gone down, but at the same time support for the death penalty has risen, and 51% still believe homosexual relations are "morally unacceptable".

Weird combination. This is a pretty hard trend to nail down. I'd say America is getting more socially liberal, but that extreme increases in coverage of crime like Natalee Holloway on the Missing-White-Girls-Network (Fox) is making people more vengeful at the same time. I don't know if this is a decrease of people who find homosexuality more unacceptable either. I thought it was just a plurality last time around.

Any thoughts on this?

1. well, I've had the Pro-Life/Pro-Death folks tell me
that in the case of abortion, it is an innocent life, whereas the DP victim is a criminal.

First I tried to explain that sometimes the person on death row is innocent and that didn't seem to matter.

My current response (which shuts them up usually) is to ask if they support the execution of everyone involved in abortion (the potential parents, the doctors, the nurses, etc) on murder charges, if they honestly feel so strongly that (according to their own numbers) they would support the execution of over 100 million people for murder.

I've yet to get an answer. Sadly, some of them probably would like to execute 100 million people for murder.

3. Let me get this straight...
More people think that gambling is "morally wrong" than think the death penalty is? :wtf:
