My home state (Florida) has come up with another Ridiculous Plan |
|
There's going to be a surplus in Florida for the coming Year and NATURALLY the Repugs have come up with another bird-brain idea to "Give some money back to the public"
For One week only, if you buy $5,000.00 worth of stuff (Big screen TV, Hi-Fi gear or what have you), you won't be charged any sales tax!
Oh Yeah great..IF you can afford to buy a 5000 dollar TV and IF you can afford to go into debt....If not..well..Tough Shit!
I mean..Goodness Gracious, we certainly wouldn't want to, like maybe, SAVE the money for the next Hurricane that blows half the state away..Hell No.. ..or maybe keep the dough in case "hard times" happen.
Christ...

Can we use our state's previoous ridiculous plan and shoot the first person we see with a plasma TV?
"Officer, he was planning to attack me with that TV! I HAD to use lethal force! And my taking of the TV is just the spoils of war."
Ah, man... this is gonna be the greatest Super Bowl ever.

3. Do you have to meet a $5,000, minimum, or spend *up to* $5,000? |

cars? Because THAT would be a significant savings.
But I'm not likely to go to best buy with my non-existant 5K.

8. You know ..to some of you..this might sound like a decent deal... |
|
but..2 things... If You go into debt (with Credit) the interest is going to cost a Lot more than the savings anyway. ..and if you're Rich than ..yes..it's a good deal (Welfare for the rich again)
The biggest thing is, though: If hard times happen next year (with the Bush economy) than guess who will be paying higher taxes on the deficit?..the Rich??..Yeah right..

9. The way that I understand it is that 5,000 is that cap.. Not the required |
|
spending amount.. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but you don't have to spend $5,000 to get the break. Also, there are two plans, the other one is that Florida residents get $100.00.. I'm not sure if that is every resident, or tax paying residents, but I don't think that's all that bad of an idea.. They have not decided yet on which of the two plans to go with yet.

11. The OP had the info wrong, I just cleared it up.. |
|
I'm sure the money would be better spent on our schools and teachers, but that isn't going to happen, this is Florida we're talking about.. The poster seemed to think you had to spend $5,000 in order to get the break, implying that only those who could afford to spend the money would get the break, and that's not the way that it is. Of the two plans I like the second one better.. That's all I'm saying..

..as it seems to do every year during hurricane season, than we'll be back to square one and will be hearing the Repugs wring their hands and whine that "We don't have the Money for such Expenditures"
I guess the bottom line is..The money (we have now) WILL be spent..
