MI bill would have citizenship status on drivers license |
|
Edited on Thu May-25-06 04:09 PM by gollygee
My husband (who is not a citizen) said that there is a bill being considered that would have non-citizens have the fact that they are not citizens clearly shown on their drivers' licenses.
I guess there is no protection from discrimination for legal permanent residents like my husband? I guess he probably won't be discriminated against too badly because he's white and from a "friendly" country. But what about legal immigrants with darker skin and from less friendly countries?
He heard this on the news on the radio on his way home from work. I can't find a link about it but I'm still looking.

1. If legal there is a fundamental right not to be discriminated against |

because of "alienage." It is right up there with "race" and "religion."
Don't worry, the green card turns a person into a "human being" with "human rights" in this country.
Though he can be deported if he commits as "aggravated felony" - now read that to mean "any crime whatsoever."
