NY Daily News: Dems' Alito defeato; Path looks clear after wife's tears >

There you have it. One little tantrum staged for the cameras and the Court is stacked for the next thirty years. Who else feels that we are living on the Titanic?

Dems' Alito defeato
Path looks clear after wife's tears

By MICHAEL McAULIFF
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - The questions - and eyes - stayed dry yesterday on the Senate's final day of grilling Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, with Democrats treading carefully a day after the judge's wife broke down in tears.

Democrats would not say openly that Martha-Ann Bomgardner's tears swayed their tactics.

But aides acknowledged senators were especially careful with their tone, and some admitted the dramatic outburst cost them their slim chance to derail Alito's nomination.

"After that, there really wasn't anything else that was going to break through," said one.

Alito's wife started crying Wednesday while a Republican senator apologized for Democrats' questions about ethics and his membership in a controversial Princeton University alumni group.

After that, Democrats, with the exception of Sen. Ted Kennedy, almost entirely dropped both areas.

1. This is so fucking absurd.
My husband does not come to job interviews with me, and even if he did, it's my reactions that count, not his.

Fucking outrageous. I am fuming.

Exactly.
Just goes to show how totally ridiculous politics in this country have become. The presidency is no different, though.

ill-fated banana boat?

4. A sniffle and a tear and the Dems
raise the white flag. Don't they make us proud. What fantastic leadership we have. NOT!

7. It wouldn't work against Republicans.
Just like the NAZIs on the train platform separating children from their mothers - tears mean nothing to these vermin.

10. Where is the crying video clip?
I tried a search on my own, and I know there are a hundred links to it here, but I couldn't find one. Anyone have a link, so I can check out this supposed "cue" moment, where she turns on the waterworks? Thanks!

The Democrats weren't even the ones making her "cry" - it was that GOP'er Lindsey Graham.

Way to help out the GOP, y'all. :-(

16. This is crazy
The question is: Is Alito suitable supreme court judge material or not?

This other stuff is just nutty nonsense and has NOTHING to do with Alito's suitablity (or not) for the court.

I wish the Dem leadership would get on track with the task at hand.

18. that's not a bad idea really
we should pass that idea on to NARAL and NOW. If all it takes is a few tears, we should have thousands of women crying on the steps of the Capitol.

19. "Dramatic outburst" should read as "Drama Queen outburst."
I'm speechless. Never mind the millions who will be crying if Alito ends up on the court. Not just crying boo-frickin'-hoo, but genuine racking sobs of agony, in the privacy of their homes.

What a witch!
