Filibuster is "not on or off the table right now" (Schumer)
"I don't think he's going to get many votes from Democrats on the committee," Sen. Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record), a New York Democrat on the committee, told CBS' "The Early Show." "As for a filibuster, it's something we'll have to discuss. So it's not on the table or off the table right now."

1. I wrote my Senators today
and told them to filibuster as well as vote no. I saw Mark Pryor, one of my senators, on a local PBS show last week, and even then he was expressing doubts over Alito. Knowing that he is usually very cautious (the state went for Bush), I found his position heartening.

2. Thank you Chuck for not making me look like a raving lunatic in GD
That's the strategy - they are being as vague as Alito is when it comes to the filibuster

3. On Alito Filibuster, Democratic Leaders Should Do It Or STFU!
I am tired of our leaders sitting on their fannies and allowing themselves to be out-maneuvered time and again! How come we have become so incompetent in fighting politically? We were totally vision-less in deregulating the MSM; we were hapless in Enron/WorldCom massive frauds; we were completely out done in two consecutive elections and we are not doing enough to ensure the up coming ones. I will not be surprised anymore if we turn out to fumble and lose these critical elections coming in 2006 and 2008. Damnnnnnnnnnnn! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY?

6. Do it or STFU?
They CAN'T do it until the nom is to the full Senate. It hasn't gotten out of committee yet.

Then, we'll see whether they'll do it.

Until then, being pissed because they haven't done it is a waste of time.

4. I wrote to him today........let's see what it will do
Here's what I wrote:

Dear Sir: I voted for you the last time, but I and a lot of other Democrats are starting to think that we have put the wrong people in office. Where are our fighters? We know that Alito is the wrong person, and we want our Senators to fight this appointment. If you could hold off getting someone in there until after 2006 elections would be best, as we are working to have the Democrats take over the House and the Senate. But, many feel that if the Democrats don't fight, why should we work for them, much less vote for them.

We are tired of compromise. We are tired of getting poorer. We are tired of living hand to mouth. We are tired of seeing our representatives roll over, yet again. We are just plain tired. Give us hope, something to work toward, and we'll do it. Give us the same old compromise and we've lost this country for good.

Zalinda

5. That doesn't make sense
If you have a table and you have something else, that thing must be either on or off the table.

18. Thanks for the fax #'s
I faxed all the Dem senators and asked them to filibuster. Only Obama, Clinton and Levin had busy signals -- but I finally got through. Rock star senators? : >

13. I imagine a good strategy would be to set up a sense that it
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 01:14 PM by izzybeans
will not happen so that crybaby Frist will be caught with his pants down twiddling his raisins again. There's nothing like watching an insecure bafoon cry about being caught naked. That is of course a filabuster happens, like 'executive session' happened just recently. If the republicans have a sense of complacency about their "presumed victory" I suppose they would be arrogant enough to not to show up unprepared.

There is no aspect of this process which is not depressing.

17. I chose to take it as encouraging news - not a fan of Schumer, but
if he dared to leave some ambiguity on the subject, things must be looking even better than I hoped.

It makes sense that their being evasive. The only thing is you know the Rethugs are salivating over the "nuclear option". So therein lies this question: will we have to votes to scrap that? I know the "Gang of 14" will be useless.
