He's paying attention to the dad (or whomever) because he's useful to him as in voting. The little boy doesn't mean anything. Have you ever seen Bush look in the eyes of a kid and actually pay attention to them? Kerry did and Gore too but I have yet seen Bush actually pay attention to a little kid unless it was for a photo-op.
