A Sad, Politically Incorrect Thought |
|
My father passed away from Pancreatic Cancer last year. He voted Republican. He liked Reagan, and appreciated the Reagan "tax cuts."
I wonder if he appreciated the cuts to cancer research that Reagan also made to help fund those tax cuts?
I loved him, but he wasn't always the brightest bulb in the box -- too much "short term thinking" with a side heaping of "that will never happen to me," if you know what I mean.
Just thinking about "short term gains/long term pains" today, and thought I'd share. Republicans by and large don't seem to get the whole "cause and effect" and "appropriate priorities" thing, and today it is making me sad.

1. Well, if you want any kind of cosmic justice |
|
Reagan cut research into Alzheimer's by quite a bit and suffered greatly from the disease.

3. I've thought about that a lot over the years. |
|
I even posted a thread about it last year -- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=4062969 -- but sadly, that doesn't make the suffering people are going through now a days any better. I believe in poetic, cosmic justice, but it isn't always fun to watch.

2. I'm so sorry about your father's illness and passing. It's so hard on |

the family as the patient. And I know pancreatic cancer is very fast, very virulent.
It is ironic about your father's views on trusting Reagan and republicans. My feeling is that no matter how much you are mistaken when you are alive, the truth will win out to your survivors. Your father didn't contribute to his demise one iota by having blind faith in the wrong people and it's just a matter of following the song of the Siren.
My mother passed away from cancer in 2002. Her birthday is next week. One of the last things she said to me before she passed was for me to get Bush out of the White House. Well, 2004 has come and gone, but I can go after Scalito. That's how I can honor her wish and help others.
