To those who can't handle the content of the google ads |
|
I admit I wasn't thrilled to see the ads, but the $ should be welcomed because the admin needs it.
DU admin has stated they are experimenting with the ads, so complaining about what you see is premature.
If you need to post to complain ad content (ie. ads for Ann Coulter books) then consider that you might be to easily offended and consider not posting such things.
Some say that clicking on Coulters ad generates $'s from her wallet, so if you can tolerate seeing it then it's a good thing.

It's one thing to open up yahoo.com and have a large pulsating ad cover the entire page by drifting over it slowly, shooting things at you and moving while migrating across your screen. It's quite another to have these little "hint" type ads. I can learn to tune them out, but I do see them.. it's sortof subliminal. Yikes.. it's subliminal!
My brain is on fire!!

2. I Really See No Big Problem With The Ads. |
|
They are so easy to deal with and knowing that they are there because the owners of DU may have found a really good opportunity for themselves is enough for me to not have an iota of a complaint about them.
Don't sweat the small shit, ya know? :)

3. I don't see anything and haven't? But I wouldn't gripe about it.. |
|
obviously sometimes you have to put up with such in order to keep the necessary funds secure enough that this site is not in danger of having to bow out, God forbid that such would ever happen.

4. What I don't like is Google (whoever) |
|
getting my IP when I click on a page -- which seems (at least) to be the case, since different members are getting different stuff. For example, I've been getting California stuff -- and I'm apparently not seeing (exactly) what others are seeing.
And if Google is getting further context (and content), then I don't care for that at all. What, I get to let Google mine my activity on this board?
Screw that -- it'll inevitably influence how I operate.
I've seen plenty of ads here I didn't like -- this appears to be something more.

6. I think that's true of anyplace you go. Your IP identifies your area. |
|
It's not a security risk for you.

9. Actually, since I get a unique, actual IP# for my net-travels |
|
(or at least used to), my IP# identifies me -- uniquely and actually among all others. Turning it into a human identity is another matter -- but it can be done.
And I don't really care what the hell they're saying that they do with the data -- I'm concerned about what they can do with it.
And I'm concerned about people thinking that using certain words in their posts (or thread titles -- or whatever) will call forth certain ads -- and therefore moderating their behavior, even subconsciously.
And yeah, I know that it's all over the net, and that many places I go to use it -- but then again, those I use most do not.
And this isn't a chance correlation.

plus they're at the top of the page so people can scroll down an inch and voila--all gone.

Why even click on something that you would not ordinarily click onto?
Selective shopping, eh?

11. It's not the content, it's the MOTION. |
|
For the last half hour I've been sitting with either my hand or foot covering the left side of the screen while I try to find out what's been recently posted. I can't read the ads. I can't even look at them. They want my attention so badly they're trying to force the issue and I don't handle that well.
