Bush Silences His Texas Swagger (NYT)
White House Memo
Bush Silences His Texas Swagger

By ELISABETH BUMILLER
Published: May 27, 2006
WASHINGTON, May 26 — What happened to the Texas swagger?

Bush and Blair Concede Errors, but Defend War (May 26, 2006)Maybe it went the way of his poll numbers. Maybe this is a newly reflective President Bush. Or maybe the first lady had her say.

Whatever the case, when Mr. Bush said at a news conference on Thursday night that he regretted some personal mistakes, like declaring "bring 'em on" in 2003, he seemed a little like the chastened husband who finally admitted he had done something wrong. Whether it worked or not depends on whom you ask.

"Sad day in Crawford, they're hanging their heads," said William J. Bennett, the former education secretary and conservative radio talk show host. Mr. Bennett said many of his listeners expressed dismay at what they considered Mr. Bush's groveling.

"One of the attractive things about the president is that he talks Texas," Mr. Bennett continued. "But what broke my heart is when he said, 'I need to be more sophisticated.' What is this, Kerry talk? Is he going to use 'elan' the next time he speaks?"

17. And Lizzie dear -- Have a chat with Richard Wolffe
Once again, the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy gets "punked."

WOLFFE: ... But of course, it is very rehearsed, everything from the mannerisms you saw, the upwards glance up at the ceiling for inspiration. And for me, the big giveaway was at the end of that answer—I don‘t know if you could see it on camera, but the president flashed a big grin to those of us sitting in the front rows. It didn‘t seem that he was quite as contrite as his performance.

OLBERMANN: So there was some political legerdemain there. There was some sleight of hand, the immediate response that we heard in many quarters to that, of this sort of astonishing landmark admission was the hoped-for result?

Yes, legerdemain ... you know ... lying.

They've only got the one speed.

2. I think one of the most disturbing
things about the repukes is the way they speak like teenagers in love about Bush: "One of the attractive things about the president is that he talks Texas," Mr. Bennett continued. "But what broke my heart is when he said, 'I need to be more sophisticated.'"

WTF? Attractive? Heartbroken? What is Bush, a puppy? These people are nuts and are members of shrubby's own sick cult of personality. Even I, as a Democrat, can see the failings of Democrats. These people can't. They are scary.

14. When voting for the leader of the Free World,
my initial question is usually, "Would I want to have a beer with that guy?"

Yours isn't? :eyes:

30. And even if that were my question, my answer would be
no, but I want to THROW the beer and the mug -- and the keg -- at his head. Hard.

18. Yes, they live in a simple, child-like world.....
where "standing tall" (whatever that means) is a reasonable response to....I'm not sure what--being insulted? Threatened? And if we're patriotic we "support our President" without bothering to find out what he's actually doing, like he's our dad.

I'm beginning to think the current crop of Bush supporters and Fundies are people who just don't want to deal with the complexities of being adults, and hate anyone who does.

4. Yeah, that's too bad...
Not.

Al Franken actually had something funny to say about that. * was quoted as saying about his swagger, "In Texas, we call that walking."

Franken, in his last book, said in New York, people call it "being an asshole."

9. For the last time. Bush is not a TEXAN. The pig ranch was bought
the day before he filed for TX Governor. It will be sale the day after he leaves office. He is a Connecticut cow girl not a Texas cattle man.

22. Hey, I'm a cowgirl from Brooklyn--don't you call Bush a cowgirl
Son of a bitch has never, ever been seen on a horse for the simple reason, I believe, that horses scare the shit out of him and they know it.

You can bullshit humans but you can't fool a horse.

He is, however from Connecticut.

25. Absolutely
One of my first jobs as a youth, a paying job, was shovelling horseshit all day after school until dark..

One thing I learned from being around horses is that they HATE for anyone to bullshit them.. they will NOT perform for a Phoney, and they can spot them a mile.. the first thing they'll do is RUB YOU OFF on something, like a goddam razor wire fence, whatever works for them :)

Sissy Ass Bush wouldn't even GET on a horse, the wonderful beast would dance right out from under him, and if it's ever happened to you it's a very wierd feeling to realise that a horse that USED to be under you is no longer there, and much like WIley Coyote you'll be running in midair..

Better hope someone just plowed the ground under you, and I'm from Illinois and know that much :)

Stick that guy in a stall with a real stallion and let's see how much masturbating he gets done, before they have to use a hook to pull out what was left of him..

11. It's weird- for the first time ever, I could listen to Bush, and not barf.
He lost more than his swagger. He lost his lying smirky nagging whine.

It's like he was actually telling the truth. For the very first time.

It was like I was hearing a human behind the words. One that has never been there until now.

Uh oh. He knows we have him. Check. Your move.

13. Lizzy tried to help Junior with his image before...
Remember Eliz's story a while back about the pResident being "frisky."

Oh....what a cute, adorable story about the pResident. It nearly brought a year
to my eye. Junior was having a difficult time, and his polls began sagging. Lizzy
wrote an saccharine story about Junior being "playful" and "frisky."

For a minute there, I thought she was writing about Morris the Cat. But no...she was
describing our pResident's new-found sense of delight and playfulness.

They always call this FLACK in, when they need help with Junior's image. Karl writes the
new personality for Junior. Karl calls Lizzy. Lizzy writes article that unveils the new
personality of our pResident!

I really wish that Lizzy would open up a PR shop and go to work at the pResident's image
consultant and PR flack.

This is really getting old. And sick.

How can Lizzy degrade herself like that? She's not a journalist. She's a prostitute with a keyboard...banging away for Junior.

23. She really *is* terrible
She's also the one who wrote the fawning piece about what Bush has on his iPod.

It's apparently her job in the State media to try to humanize this monster. It's part of the Cult of Personality they try to build around this zero.

Here it is: Pres. Bush's New Public Face: Confident, Comfortable, 'Impishly Fun'

It made me wonder if he'd endorsed a line of designer clothing!

Why doesn't she change her last name to Bull-Meister and get it over with?

28. Notice that he didn't say
he was sorry he said them, just that he regrets they were misinterpreted.

That's like the difference between saying "I'm sorry" to someone you've wronged, and saying "I'm sorry you feel that way".

Mr Morality, the guy who BLEW his load in Vegas, telling us ALL HOW TO BEHAVE.. I'd like for Bennett to study the prison culture, up close and personal, then report back with a colon that whistles when he walks.. :)
