After watching this video clip of Bill O'Reilly, I had to pinch myself to make sure I was really awake.

1. Pompous blowhard and sleazeball. A bully.

I hate bullies.


I'd never give him the benefit of the doubt and ascribe insanity to him. He's in it for the money and he's found the perfect pulpit from which to bully, intimidate, and blow off lots of hot air. He's not a journalist and he's...welll..he's nothing, really. Nothing positive or constructive, anyway. A leech on the collective consciousness. Him and his f***ing loofah.

3. Father Coughlin was far more powerful than O'Reilly

He attacked the news media for being biased as well. He didn't blame liberals, however, like O'Reilly does today. He blamed the international Jewish bankers and businessmen he accused of manipulating the corporate media for their own gain.

The tactics are roughly the same. The scapegoated target is different this century, though.

5. Did you catch the bit where he equates liberals to 'bomb-throwers?'

He does this in a sly way, but he essentially equates the so-called liberal media and entertainers to "bomb-throwers." Of course, he can rebut criticism by saying that he was referring to 'articles' or 'statements' made by the 'liberal press,' but by using this type of language he can effectively make a subtle yet profound impression on those with less acumen.

4. He is not insane.

He knows just what he's doing. Besides, calling him that would mitigate his moral responsibility to the truth - something real journalists are supposed to have.

He's not a crappy propagandist, either. He is quite effective at being a propagandist - his ratings are quite impressive. If anythning, he's a very good propagandist. I would try to mock him here, but just watch the Colbert Report; he does it flawlessly ("I'm gonna tell you everything you need to know").

Needless to say though, he is a scourge upon the media and democracy.

It's not that he's terribly effective, but sadly does hold some sway over his not insignificant audience.

I had to go with both. He gets lots of publicity but only about 2.0 million people watch him a night.
That's like influencing the entire city of Houston to agree with you. Big city but 2.0 million people
hardly counts among 260 million. He could have all of them drooling down their bibs and still be a crappy propagandist.

I did go watch the tape and I was right to vote for barking mad for this guy. Lets see, his logic is -- entertainers smoke pot; kids see that and imitate them; entertainers die young; and then Bill returns from London. What a f'ing screw ball...nuts and lousy...that's my ticket in this election.

I was under the impression that psychosis can be treated -- although some who have taken anti-psychotic meds probably feel that the "cure" is worse than the affliction.

I don't think you can "fix" what O'Reilly has.
