Douglas Brinkley: "Bush didn't show curiosity towards Katrina..."
Edited on Sat May-27-06 02:20 AM by Blue_Roses
I'm watching C-SPAN now...guess it's the late edition from this morning, nevertheless, he's spot on and not because he speaks of obvious incompetence on Bush's part, but because he just took shit from some caller from Florida (no less) and he handled her rant with tact.

It makes me sick that these people who "think" they know what's best for the Louisiana coast get on their soapbox because they think they know what's best when obviously they are just ranting.

It seems they sure are taking alot of repub calls. Where is the Democratic support:shrug:

I have no doubt Brinkley can handle these calls, but good grief, come on C-SPAN--answer the fucking phone.

1. I haven't been able to get through for over a year.

Of course the chimp showed curiosity. He flew over it a couple of days later, saw a good photo-op and came back a few days later.

2. i think c-span has a form of censorship of the press by simply not picking
up on the calls going into their line for the democrats.

3. This was an excellent C-Span interview for its political savvy.
As Brinkley notes, Nagin is really a DINO and a darling of some of the Repubs in the area who are using him to soften up the vote so later they can get LA into the Repub column and have a solid south again, all Repub (Brinkley likened Nagin to Clarence Thomas at one point). The Repubs have got AL, GA, and FL (and likely MS as well) now because of the voting machines of course (tho Brinkley didn't mention that). LA is next on the list.

Also, Brinkley is honest about the mistakes of everybody in the disaster and Nagin is high on his list for being out of touch and incompetent during the crisis.

He was fairer with Blanco whose record was "mixed." She was a little out of touch at the beginning but later on worked tirelessly to get buses and aid to the area, doing far more than others did at the nat'l level. Bush handled the crisis very poorly in many ways and even now should be making the area a top priority. The confrontation between Blanco and Bush about the use of federal troops he didn't go into on C-Span but he said he dealt with that extensively in his book.

Anyway, his book sounds like a great read.

4. I've had my fill
of people using "incurious" as an euphemism for Bush's stupidity, indifference, and incompetence. The implication is that he's intelligent and resourceful, but holds those qualities in reserve because he's "incurious." The guy's a bullheaded halfwit and it's way past time everyone said so.

5. i think it's both
one can be incompetent and get things wrong, but do want to do good. in this case their intentions are good but they are just incompetent.

Bush is a moron but he doesn't even care about many of the things in the first place. or he doesn't care if he fails or if he makes it worse. he is a selfish cold asshole like the rest of his family and administration.

7. Curiosity...? For the love of God, this is our...

effing leader here... I think I would want him to show a little more than "curiosity" here... Great role-model for the kids... Nothing like having the lowest expectations of our leaders...

9. Candy Crowly on CNN said she interviewed Bush just after the Texas
University bonfire that killed so many students.. and Bush, governor at the time, couldn't hold in the tears. Seems Bush can relate to "kids dying at a pep rally" but not to Katrina victims.

11. Bush showed no curiosity about the Twin Towers, either.
No one has any record of that bastard asking about civilian casualties after he was told that a plane hit an office building on a workday in crowded Manhattan. Not one single question.
