Marines commit massacre in Iraq. But Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld
pulled the triggers.

Our marines are not cops. They're living every second of their lives in fear of who's going to take a shot at them. A pregnant woman? A teenage girl or boy? A taxi driver? A baker?

This is not the mission they were trained for or are equipped to handle. Many have been there for a long time and every time they think they're going home, their tours get extended.

Never has our military been so misused, abused and discarded. And the criminals doing this to them are running our government.

These guys cracked under incredible pressure when one of their buddies was blown up. They went on a murderous spree killing women, children and the elderly: Perhaps 20 people in all.

But before you judge them, put yourself in their position. Each and every one of us has a breaking point at which we lose our humanity. And these people were pushed to that point. And perhaps beyond it.

However you look at it, these marines broke the Geneva Convention and committed murder. But before putting them on trial, lets see Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all of their cohorts on trial for crimes against humanity.

2. This administration never sent a proper occupation force to Iraq.
What did we expect?

Only distablization and death, on all sides.

The U.N. should have been used.

Nice we have "Mr. Anti-UN" Bolton as our United Nations ambassador, eh?

3. They all should be tried. Bush, Cheney, etc down to the lowest PFC.
"Each and every one of us has a breaking point at which we lose our humanity."

So did the murderers at My Lai, Wounded Knee, Lidice, Babi Yar, and Auschwitz. And, they all had choices.

A case could even be made that Bush, Cheney, & Company, reached their "breaking point" under pressure from the public, the polls, their upbringing, etc.

It's a too convenient excuse.

BTW I'm an ex-marine and have no sympathy for murderers.

6. I'm not disagreeing with you. They committed murder and should be
brought to trial and punished accordingly.

Unfortunately, we know that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their entire corrupt gang of thugs will walk away rich and happy without a care in the world.

It has ever been thus. But maybe, someday, justice will prevail and marines put in this position will get the right people in their sights.

4. It boggles the mind that no matter the crime, no matter the complete
indecency of the behavior, someone always comes along and tries to justify it. Yeah, they are in a really bad situation. Does that automatically render them blameless for all their actions? Does their sense of morality go out the window because one of theirs died doing what they've been 'trained' to do, fighting a war?

I think I've heard all this before. Oh yeah, Lt. William Calley and his forces. And Tiger Force. And there was an incident under a bridge during the Korean War, but I'm a little hazy on the details of that incident, I'll have to look them up and see if I can find something on it.

Regardless, there is no excuse for killing innocent people. Those kids must have been extremely terrifying, expecially the babies.

7. I'm not justifying it. See post #6. They should be held fully accountable
and if found guilty should spend the rest of their lives in prison.

The point I was making is that those who put them in this position will walk and never lose a night's sleep.

9. Of course you were trying to justify this shit...

10. That was an explanation of why they did what they did. It in no way,
however, excuses their actions. Let me just say that they wouldn't want me on their juries.

However, if you want to go on arguing about my words, meaning and intent, good luck. Enjoy your monologue.

5. One of the Marines took pictures of the massacre
and gave them to the prosecution. My Lai was brought to light by GI's with a conscience; is that what happened here? Do we know anything about how those cell-phone pics came to light?

8. they were trained to fight a land war in europe
not an urban war in iraq. war does horrible things to otherwise decent people. there is really no justification for the murder but it is understandable. all those involved need to be held accountable for their actions.

maybe now people will start listening to what the iraqi`s have been saying, esp about this murder

11. The leaders are responsible for their soldiers
They train people to kill and destroy and expect things like this not to happen when they are sent to a foreign and hostile land.

What nonsense.
