Now I know for a fact the neocons/fundies are going down………
In my neighborhood there is a semi-annual two-day rummage sale that I try never to miss. This Lutheran Church is THE PLACE to get some fairly nice clothing, linens, camping equipment, and about anything else under the sun, at fairly reasonable prices. It’s also the place to go if you want a good feel for what the people are thinking and doing. Just attend these two-day semi-annual rummage sales and walk around listening to the various conversations.

I'd say as a very conservative estimate there are hundreds if not a couple thousand people attending this two-day event so it’s quite the neighborhood doings. Keep in mind these people are very much the church going socially conservative types too. As I walked around October’s rummage sale there were a few conversations like, “Bush is doing all right but he should………” or, “I like Bush but I wish he’d………” Then came the rummage sale earlier this month and all I heard was laughter and disgusted looks whenever Bush was mentioned. A few times Cheney was mentioned and each time the comment was, “He is truly evil and Bush isn’t much better.” Out of all the political conversations I overheard I only heard two women praise Bush and both are the sarcastic better-than-thou types. Unfortunately both women live in my building and yes they hang around with each other too. At the rummage sale though they both got dirty looks and complete silence when they said anything favorable about Bush or Cheney.

This rummage sale also has fresh baked pies, cakes, and anything else that’s good and fattening. OMG, it’s so yummy!!! So I always have lunch there and purposely brought up politics just to get a feel for what they were thinking. I said, “I wonder how many people who didn’t vote in the last general election are going to the polls this time around.” As quick as could be this one woman spoke up and said, “I know my daughter and son-in-law are going to the polls this time. I told them if they didn’t vote in this election and in 2008 that I would write them out of the family will. I’ve already got the paperwork ready for my signature in case they think I’m kidding. I’m going to show it to them this weekend too when we get together.” Every mouth around that table dropped open and a couple women even commented, “That’s a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that. I’m going to use that on my kids too.” The other women then wanted to know who the first woman had used to draw up a new will so they were apparently serious and yes she provided them with business cards too. It was all I could do to stifle a laugh at what these families might be facing.

So when a bunch of conservative church going people start pulling out all the stops to defeat the neocons/fundies you know they are done for.

The bottom line here is that the Democratic Party needs to get a little louder with a unified message and get it out there for these people to latch onto. I think we will be hearing a whole lot more about that between now and November too. Don’t anyone bother trying to tell me the Democratic Party is neolight or anything like that, they aren’t. The Democratic Party may not be perfect but they’re starting to wake up and we all need to encourage that. As an example of the waking up, Dean and some Democratic Governors held a news conference this past week with a message that all Democrats/Liberals would have been very proud of.

So again I say I'm convinced now the neocons/fundies are going down.

2. thanks for this heartening report
I know its been very very quiet in the town where I work in regards to Bushco. Only thing I've heard is from military families who are mad that their loved ones who are ill are being deployed once again to Iraq.

3. Could you imagine the converts a united "No NSA Spying Campaign"
would have brought to the Democratic party? These people at your rummage sale are ripe for the picking. Many could have been swayed on that one issue alone. But now it cannot be used because too many Dems voted for Hayden.

6. I've got to hold out some hope that Dems will get it together.............
......although I'm with you - I wish they had not voted for the idiot. It would make a grassroots effort all the easier. I just hope Dean and those Governors start screaming loud and long.

5. Did the lady with the will mean that
she wanted her kids to vote for Dems? Or, did she mean they should vote for repubs since all the polls say they are in danger of losing one if not both houses? It could be either way if the folks in your neighborhood are as conservative as you make them sound. Do they want to bring shrub down or come to his rescue?

8. She and the others around her were definitely wanting to .................
......to bring Bush down. Yea, I was surprised too that the ONLY two women who defended the WH Idiot live in my building and were met with total silence and dirty looks when they mentioned their support of Bush.

Yes, these people are socially conservative but they also want to be left to live their lives their way. Keep in mind these are Lutherans who remember their religious history and of their forefathers having to leave Europe because of religious persecution. They frown on anyone trying to stomp of their freedoms, plus MANY of these people are WW II vets and spouses of WW II vets. And they are totally up in arms about how Bush is treating the military right now.

Believe they are royally pissed these days.

9. I have a "Don't blame me - I voted Democratic" bumper sticker
on my car.

Yesterday I went to Lowes and was approached by two women - at separate times - who admired the sticker and wished they had similar ones.

14. I saw an amazing sticker in the movie theater parking lot.
What made it so amazing is that the county I live in went for Bush 71% in 2004. The sticker had a picture of the GOP elephant on the left. I walked up to it with trepidation, but burst out laughing when I read it:

Of course it hurts.
You're being screwed by an elephant.

13. Wow! Are you listening, you spineless Dems in Congress?
Just think of the impression they could be making out there, if they would just say "NO" to the reich-wing.
Every single Dem Senator should have voted "NO" on Hayden.

If they could even pretend to be an opposition, people like these church folks could feel that there is a viable alternative.

17. If you think the Democratic Party is doing wrong here is what............
........what you need to do to change it. I am NOT the author of the article but it's still the answer. It's a fairly short article but it puts the responsibility for what the Democratic Party does and doesn't do right back where it belongs - in our laps.

Please read it and then go to work...........

19. I said nothing about "bolting for a third party", obviously.
That’s not a viable alternative.

Are you saying that voting for someone like Hayden, who was instrumental in the illegal NSA wiretapping, was part of some Dem party platform?

That’s ridiculous.

I know what the Dems say they stand for, Dean has been outspoken about it.
But far too few of them follow it.

I am saying that they don’t have to be on the “winning” side in order to be the winners.
There is the issue of an ETHICS victory.

And that is something that those who oppose the * cabal will sit up and notice.

Right now, they're watching the cabal tear this country down. BUT they're also seeing the Dems voting to go along with it.

20. I'm refering more to the neighborhood caucus meeting where we.............
.....getto help set the message for the Democratic Party and we also get to help deliver that message. Just think if every DUer went to one caucus meeting the effect we could have. :wow:

No, no, please I did not mean my reference to the article in a bad way, I meant we could have one heck of an affect that would send the neocons/fundies reeling right back into the unemployment lines in November. :bounce:  :bounce:

16. Won't they be surprised when the election is stolen!
Then, all across the nation, people will be shaking their heads, completely disgruntled, knowing that we live in a dictatorship but not quite sure what to do about it.
