Prediction-If the Dems take a House and the Pres by '08...
Sometime around 2011-2012 thing might actually start getting better. Maybe we'll have a handle on the deficit, get universal health care and be out of Iraq. We could forge ahead with alternative energy.

At that point the Repukes will tell us why all of it was made possible by the great leadership of G W Bush.

1. I would love to believe, but if we take control of the government,
we will have a shit mess on our hands. The full extent of the fuck-up is definitely being concealed now.

I'm not sure that Superman and all of the planet Krypton could solve the problems of the United States right now.

I am simply hoping that we can stop the hemorraging. We will need a President of FDR calibre to fix this crap. I'm not sure that our generation has an FDR type in it, we are such a pathetic bunch.

7. I'll be even more cynical...
So, this November, we take control of one or both houses of Congress. And just who are "in control?" The same "keep your powder dry" Democrats a majority of whom voted to confirm a general behind the NSA spying (a man who denied that "probable cause" was even in the Fourth Amendment) to the leadership of the CIA. The same Democrats who, that very same day, refused to put up a fight against the confirmation of the unqualified, far-right Brett Kavanaugh, just as they'd failed to put up a fight against Alito or Roberts. The same Democrats who have failed to stand up to a single incident in a long line of Bush outrages, instead opting to shuffle about impotently until the issue dropped from the public radar. Tell me that these same spineless, "go along to get along" members of the entrenched Democratic minority will suddenly rise up united in defiance of Bush if they hold a slim majority in Congress. You believe that? I've got a nice bridge to sell you.

And, in 2008, we may take back the Presidency. With whom? Most likely Hillary Clinton, whose pandering and triangulation make her husband look like Che Guevara by comparison.

You see, this is the big dilemma for Democrats: Bush and the Republicans have done enough damage that we really can't wait to take back power. But the Democrats likely to take back that power have already proven themselves over and over again to be "not ready for prime time." In an ideal world, we would have a couple of election cycles in which the grassroots, netroots, etc., could take back the party (or in the words of Kos, "crash the gate"), create a new agenda, and develop a slate of fresh, effective leadership, before we took back the nation's government from the powers that be. But, given current conditions, "a couple of election cycles" are a luxury we simply can't afford. We've got to go into battle with what we've got, even though I, for one, have zero confidence that they will serve us effectively even if we can take back the country. :-(

2. I believe Dems could take the House and lose it again by '08 or '10
This way, one could insulate against the charge that the voting machines are rigged. They'd say, "See, the machines aren't really biased against Democrats; they're just incompetent. If the machines were really rigged, the Dems would never have won anything."

4. I think the US has taken a death blow because of * and the repubs.
We are not going to quietly saunter into better times if the Democrats win. We're going down and we haven't even seen bottom yet. 5 more years of Iraq fiasco? That would give us a national debt of around $15 trillion?

5. What a mess lies ahead. The clean-up from this bunch will take
Edited on Sun May-28-06 07:29 PM by Lastlaughin08
decades to repair. And Bush will swagger off into the sunset like he actually did something right in the whole miserable 8 years of destruction.

6. Okay,
I know where your coming from.
But I also remember the doom talk about deficits as far as the eye could see when Clinton took office. He fixed it.
But my main point is that EVEN IF the Dems manage to get us out of the mess we are in (and I'm not saying they can) The Repukes will immediately give Pres McChimp the credit.

8. Billionaires will have to settle for being mere multimillionaires
when the tax laws are adjusted to make the tax burden fair again. Dems will also provide relief for lower income earners.
