Intense news from Iraq
Just spoke with a friend who has a good friend living in Iraq. Apparently in the last days Baghdad has been covered with leaflets saying that if a woman is seen in public with her head uncovered, she will be killed; if she is seen walking alone in public, she will be killed; if she is seen with any of her body showing, she will be killed; if she is seen driving a car, she will be killed.

Freedom marches on.

6. I checked Riverbend today
and noticed that her last post was 5-2. I worry, because it could be not enough hours of electricity, or something far worse. Please let us know if you hear anything. As a woman, I feel a bond with other women. As a woman born in the South in 1943, I can sympathize a lot with what she must feel by the current suppression of women in Iraq. I pray that she is well and safe.

7. Over last summer I saw some Iraqi unionists speak
The president of the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions In Iraq was there. He talked about how they were spreading ethnic unity in their workers unions -- Shi'a, Sunnis, Kurds, Turkmen.

He also talked about how womens rights have gone back maybe to "the 1950's" in the face of this, how people are reacting to horrible poverty, joining militias -- turning Iraq to hell in response to the occupation.

9. I don't think so.
Sorry. I don't think scanning and emailing something like that from an internet cafe would be a great idea.
